McLemore in Holding Pattern

Since leaving Oak Hill Academy and enrolling at Humble (Texas) Christian Life Center, Ben McLemore remains in a holding pattern.

The No. 4 shooting guard in the nation is attempting to get qualified while still considering the same two options.

“It’s just still basically a two-horse race between Kansas and Missouri,” Christian Life coach Carlos Wilson said Friday by phone.

“I don’t think he has discussed a specific timetable [on deciding]. His main focus is just to get qualified right now. That’s the No. 1 part. The other situation takes second to that.”

Wilson said the 6-foot-5, 185-pound McLemore will take a standardized test again soon to attempt to improve his score.

“He is going to take the test again in the future,” Wilson said. “He’s already close but we don’t want to risk it.

“We’re planning on him finishing the semester on a great note and also improving his test score a little bit.”

McLemore and former teammate Sidiki Johnson, who has signed with Arizona, were booted from Oak Hill last month for violating a team rule. The 6-9 Johnson landed at Wadleigh in New York, where he is practicing but not playing.

“He’s adjusting well,” Wilson said of McLemore. “He’s doing a real good job. He’s trying to be a good teammate and a good student.”
