Angelo Chol Down to 3 Schools

Angelo Chol is now down to three schools.

“Yes, he eliminated Washington and Alabama,” his high school coach, Ollie Goulston, said by text.

The 6-foot-8 Chol out of San Diego Hoover is now considering Arizona, Kansas and North Carolina and will announce  Thursday at 12:45 local time at his high school.

Kbcsports.com will stream the press conference live.

Chol is the No. 8 center in the Class of 2011, per Rivals.

Scout.com first reported the news.

  • Good stuff AZ.

This is going to be very interesting.

    UNC and Kansas and Arizona.

Looks like Bill and Kansas really wants CHOL.
Kansas is upset about the J.Turner recruit.. and how it lost this recruit to Arizona.

Expect Kansas and Bill to go FULL OUT ,in the next fews days.

Woody and Chalk should be happy that I didn’t mention Kansas Gangster U.

  • On behalf of Arizona Wildcats fans nationwide…

Jessie, shut up (especially the really stupid “Gangster U” business).

Arizona could sure use someone with a solid post presence, especially if we (very likely) lose Derrick Williams to the draft.

    BEAR DOWN ARIZONA!

  • i dont get the fuss over a kid is barely a top 100 player.

  • You mean the fuss that is a two paragraph story on a blog? That kind of a fuss?

  • @bostoncat, i’m with you, a presser for a kid who’s not in the top 50? what has this world come to?

  • media stuff aside….i just dont get zona fans going nuts over this kid. unc and ku want him only because both could be screwed next year with bigs if guys go pro. there are few good bigs in this class and chol is the only thing that is left. chol will get recruited over very quickly at unc and ku.

  • Some of you people are hilarious. No, this kid is not a 5 star recruit, but why does a kid have to be a 5 star recruit for fans to be excited about him? The superiority complex of some of the blue blood programs fans is quite comical at times…

  • i bet fans were excited over kyryl natyazhko, 2009 recruit, 4 star, 49th ranked player on scout. fast forward 2 years and my guess the excitement has worn off after 2ppg average through 56 games.

  • Star ratings are so overblown to begin with and have more to do with politics than skill. Angelo Chol is one of those guys who was late to the game, didn’t really start playing seriously until 9th grade, so many recruiting analysts were late to acknowledge his skills.

However, in case you didn’t know, he is currently 2nd All Time in career rebounds in the state of California… and 2nd All Time in the history of the country in blocked shots, including a national record 337 blocks as a sophomore. Has something like 35 triple doubles in his high school career. Chol is a big-time defender, a natural shot blocker and the dude can ball, no matter how many stars are next to his name.

Above and beyond that, he is a very centered and classy young man. He goes about things the right way and would be a great addition to any college program. Seems to be a really good kid.

  • ATCATinMass

Please do not presume to speak for “Cat fans everywhere.” Let Jesse have his say, along with the rest of us. We have the same common ground, don’t we?: GO CATS!

  • BostonCat,

Kryl is a project for sure, hard to watch most times and to this stage of his career, he’s a big disappointment. However, Scout.com isn’t exactly the be-all end-all source of recruiting info. That same year they had Derrick Williams as the 32nd best power forward and the 95th ranked player in the top 100. Fast forward two years and D.Will is the most efficient offensive player in the country and is a lock for all-American honors as a sophomore.

Stars and rankings don’t mean much beyond the top 20-30 players in the country.

  • there are diamonds in the rough for sure…but how often do you actually find them?

  • good point, obviously having a top-20 player is always preferred, but it takes time for a new head coach to develop recruiting ties, especially for a life-time East coast guy like Miller who’s coming out West where he hasn’t even recruited before 20 months ago.

However, with JT and Bunnies coming in 2011, Grant Jarrett already committed for 2012, and B. Ashley leaning towards Arizona as well it seems to me that Sean Miller is already way ahead of schedual.

  • I have to say that most ‘zona fans I’ve come across have UNC/Duke sized egos in regards to their team despite the Arkansas/Maryland resume that their team actually has.

  • GasCan,

Most of those guys are new to the fan base. When you win 11 out of 20 conference championships and send a lot of quality players to the NBA then people come out of the woodwork to root for the front runners.

Me, I’ve had season tickets since before Lute was the coach and most of the long-time fans I know are humble and classy. (unless ucla, or asu are in McKale… we do love to hate our rivals)

The UofA obviously does not have the long traditions of UK, UNC, KU, UCLA, or Indiana. However, Arizona is definitely one of the top 10-15 basketball schools in the country, no doubt about it.

  • time to develop recruiting ties…please. miller was in deep crap and not getting recruits. until he found his new connection to the pump and run brothers. take a guess what johnson, turner, and ashley all have in common.

  • A Kentucky fan spouting off about another coach and illegal tactics in recruiting? Beyond comical!

  • Right… because aau coaches and tournament organizers have all of the power these days? They tell the kids where to go and the kids simply obey? That’s your take?

I get it Bcat, you’re used to yelling insults back and forth with JW and so therefor you automatically lump in all UofA fans with his nonsense. It is, however, possible to have an intelligent adult conversation without resorting to conspiracy theories.

Sean Miller had never recruited a single player from the West in his 15 years of coaching before last year. It is not because of some shady back room deal that players are now coming to Tucson, it is because he is a very good coach and because Arizona basketball is a national brand with staying power. I’m not here to compare UofA to Kentucky, UK is one of the elites, Arizona is not… so just relax. All I’m saying is that Arizona is a national basketball school, not regional and Miller is way ahead of schedule in returning the Cats to their place as one of the top-15 basketball schools in the country.

  • I will be honest and say that I am glad that Miller is out west recruiting, because when he was up the road from Lexington at Xavier a few years ago, it worried me when we had Billy Clyde at UK. Not worried anymore, but he is a great up and coming coach. It is crazy how basketball vanishes when you get past Lawrence, Kansas. Here is to Zona, UCLA, and even Washington making some noise in the future.

  • BostonKittie…

you scaring off Woody and Chalk…
    lol

The west player have been overly under rated.
This is a good thing for Arizona…some say,CHOL is 50ish, fo sho.

The UNC folks have reached out and show some class to the Wildcats.

    Note-
AZmess… you must of been lost for TWO years already. Kansas Gangster U has been established for ~ 2 Years. Were you just living under a rock and crawled out. LMAO
ps- how long has the TICKET thing been going on.

  • The choice will be Arizona to all you Kansas fans. Read and weep!

  • The arrogance of the Kentucky fans is astounding, considering they will never win it all under Calipari. He’s a great recruiter, but a complete bonehead with the X’s and O’s whose team will always fold in the tournament when matched up against a good coach with halfway decent talent.

  • i’d love to know what your team has won.

  • I suppose I could claim that UCLA is my team just to get you to shut up, but that would be a lie.

My team hasn’t won anything, but that wasn’t the issue. The point was that your coach is CYO girls level with the X’s and O’s, and all your top recruiting classes won’t be able to overcome that. You won’t win this year, and you won’t win next year.

  • And are you originally from Kentucky or did you go to school there? If neither is true, how did you become a fan? Let me guess: You conveniently became a fan of them from 1,000 miles away just as Pitino was fielding a team with a ton of future NBAers on it.

  • well i generally dont care what fans of lesser programs that have lesser standards think of my team. if your definition of success and failure is determined entirely on if you win a title, then you will be disappointed pretty much every year. of course fans like yourself never apply that standard to your own program. wonder why….

how and when i became a fan is really none of your business and is ultimately irrelevant.

  • AZ,

The WITCHING HOUR is aproaching for CHOL….

Everyone in the WEST is bashing UNC and Roy.

West is saying.. Roy and UNC is just upfront with the California, west, players.
Roy has gotten rid of all the California players from the TEAM.
There is a reason why ROY has not stayed TRUE to the WORD, with West players.
UNC is ALL , Lip service.

    Understand that TRUTH
Understand when it it LIP SERVICE.

  • ummm Jessie,

Roy Williams has made a career out of recruiting Cali players. 1/2 his rosters at Kansas were from California. Just because the Weir twins and Larry Drew II did not cut it recently at UNC does not a pattern make.

Just because a school is recruiting against the Wildcats does not in fact make them our enemy.

  • (Shakes head in disbelief)

    I’m out.

Adam, you have a nice, informative blog here. Unfortunately, you also have a bunch of meatheads posting on it.

Jesse, I’ve been reading your b*ll$hit for a couple of years on blogs all over the country, and yes, your “Gangster U” schtick, however truthful or on the mark, is beyond tiresome.

Wyoming, if you followed any UA Wildcats blog you would know that my opinion of Jesse is shared with the overwhelming majority of Cat fans.

But mostly this is for BostonCat, RockChalkWoody (or whatever it is), GasCan, and most of the other morons who post here.

ALL of you guys pose and posture, are arrogant as f*&CK, and contribute NOTHING to the conversation.

If you are looking for an intelligent, lively discussion of college basketball, look elsewhere.

I’d better go. If I stay any longer my IQ will plunge.

  • Some of the folks from the East Coast- UNC area…

    May not get out much.

If yous did not know….Everyone from California is from somewhere else.

UNC does not take care of the California players- The Truth.

    This is Understood.

  • ummm Jesie,

I’m born and raised in Tucson. Have never lived on the East coast, but I have lived in California for many years and believe it or not there are quite a few native Californians living there. Millions and Millions of them as a matter of fact.

  • The bottom line is the kid’s upside. As posted earlier, he was super late to the game, and is showing top 25 caliber type talent. Defensively, he is there. That is what the CATS needs in the upcoming year. UA will have more than enough offense with JT, & the johnsons coming in. This is easily a top 5 preseason squad, even when evaluated by EaStPiN. Most people out west already have UA as a dark horse for NT this year. It is easy to say that UA is back!

  • Just what I thought … a tool from a 1,000 miles away who hopped on the bandwagon. When Cal resigns in the wake of violations a few seasons from now, maybe you’ll get lucky and hire a coach who can recruit AND coach.

  • the real tool is the one who makes statements like yourself. i had a great 4 years at uk, watched them cut down the nets in 98. enjoy your irrelevant team’s irrelevant season.

  • AZ

    It is true that …..
The announcemnt also has a LIVE FEED.

    12:45pst- time

    kbcsports.com at 1:45 p.m. MT

    SUP!

    Note-
    Leave BostonKensucky Cat alone.
    The team is horrible.
And Cali has shown his true coaching capabailities.
HOw did he get T.Jones? The story from the West is much different than the stuff coming from YOUs.

    Just Horrible.

  • RockChalkdumbasF*ck, how about now?! The press conference is in a half hour, but are you still confident? I say Chol to Arizona, what do you say dumba*s?!

  • davidpk19,

did kansas and arizona play this year?

  • davidpk19 – why are you so angry???

Good get for ‘Zona … Chol has a lot of potential. But as a KU fan, I’ll take Daniels over Chol any day …

  • Sorry beakemhawks, the dude just gets under my skin with his arrogant posts. My apologies to you and the other level-headed Kansas fans.

  • AZ,

It is clear that the boyz in Da Da Da.. eSPN.
    is wet under the years.

The addition of CHOL has made ARIZONA a TOP3 recruiting class.

Remember what I said about those eSPN boyz and their failure to evaluate WEST playersss.

TOP3 recruiting class and don’t let anybody tell you underwise.

    not even kentucky….lol
