This has been quite a week for Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and his program.
Just three days after landing 6-foot-8 small forward Alex Murphy from the Class of 2012, the Blue Devils secured a verbal pledge from 6-4 shooting guard Rasheed Sulaimon of Houston Strake Jesuit, the No. 4 shooting guard in the class.
The duo should give Duke a head start on the No. 1 overall recruiting class for 2012.
“I just thought Duke was a great overall fit for me to become the most successful both on and off the court,” Sulaimon said Friday by text.
“They have one of the greatest academic institutions in the nation, have great students and fans and a great head coach in Coach K. Everything about Duke just fit what I was looking for in a school.”
Sulaimon attended Wednesday’s North Carolina-Duke game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, won by the Blue Devils, 79-73.
Sulaimon currently averages 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals, according to MaxPreps.
“I’ll just bring a guy who’s hardworking, who can play pressure defense and is willing to do whatever coach asks me,” he said before the visit. “Be a great teammate and a great leader.”
Sulaimon also considered North Carolina, Georgetown, Arizona and a trio of Texas schools, Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor.
“Duke’s future just looks brighter and brighter,” 2011 commit Austin Rivers, a newly minted McDonald’s All-American, said by text.
