  • AZ,

If one is ranked in the 60’s or lower… then, we call them Carly Jr. and not McD.

    Interesting..

But, the game should be good viewing.

  • NO West Player made the roster….
    except for Kyle.

    LMAO.

We going to call it McEast.
And the West will stop eating McDonalds.

  • any one look at the top 100 players on scout and rivals? anyone notice that the number of players heading to the pac-10 is pathetic? and the players (turner/brown/wroten) that are have MAJOR baggage that legit programs did not want.

players know going to the pac-10 is committing career suicide.

pac-10 is a mid major, 1 big conference.

    real talk

  • The real story here is how little Calipari will accomplish next season with all this talent.

Hell, the guy couldn’t get a final four with 5 first rounders-what’s next?

  • the real story is how absurdly jealous and obsessed you are with cal. you could brag about your own team/coach whoever it is or focus on cal. rather telling you choose the latter. wonder why.

  • Josaih Turner, Nick Johnson and Jabari Brown should have been named to the McDonald’s All-American team. All of whom will be attending PAC-12 schools next year (UA and Oregon).

  • @bostoncat, my team is the most consistent program over the last decade and is responsible for the most iconic figure in your program’s history.

  • brown and turner are problem kids. ask anyone. johnson is good….but there are just way better guards in the class then him.

i’m assuming memphis is your team. i dont blame you for living in the past. considering how bad the present is and future looks. explains a lot of the bitterness. the sooner you let it go, the better of you will be.

  • BC – leave Memphis out of this. We’re happy with the direction we’re headed. Take your own advice and stick to the positives of your team.

  • @bc, your knowledge of college hoops is seriously lacking if you think memphis has been the most consistent program over the last decade and calipari is the most iconic figure in your program’s history.

  • Hey BostonKensucky.
That team is not even a TOP15 team.
Can not win on the ROAD.
    hahaha

    AZ…
From the West with LOVE… enjoy.

  • @chicken – my bad. i just never would have thought a KU fan would talk trash about uk or cal is all when you consider everything. really through me.

most consistent program over the last decade….and JUST 1 final four and title to show for it. if cal is at uk for 10 years and thats all he accomplishes, i’d be disappointed. but different programs have different standards. dont see why a KU fan would talk smack about cal under achieving with 5 1st round picks when self has under achieved big time in the NCAAT losing to absurdly lesser teams like northern iowa, bradley, and bucknell. 7 completed seasons, 3 early exits. not an ideal ratio. and this year, with 4 1st picks of his own (morris twins, selby, and robinson) if he doesnt get to a final four….i wonder what you will say then?

i have no problems with ku at all, like the program…just dont get why a ku fan would talk smack against a uk or cal.

  • JW – “BostonKensucky”? i’d like to think you are better then that, but we all know you arent so i’ll let it pass.

60% of the pac-10 is going to finish overall .500 or worse. 60%!!!!! easy to win road games when you are playing against teams that arent even going to qualify for the NIT! and the conference is going to get worse!

just 8 top 100 players on scout and rivals are heading to the pac-10 this year. and a lot of that talent is marginal at best.

  • What is the most surprising pick for me is Plumlee. He is the 9th best center in the country according to Rivals. There should be a little more west coast flavor somewhere.

  • I wish my boy Ryan Boatright had made the team. Does AZ ever actually respond to Jess Wildcat’s comments?

  • Boston Cat–Turner is not a bad kid. Turner’s high school coach is the only one talking about the transfer because he is trying to gain something from it. Turner and his mother are not talking because they know that if they stay quite the buzz will die down and it will not turn into an ugly mess. I am guessing you have never watched Nick Johnson play because there are not many guards better than him. He is by far the best defensive guard in the class plus he fill it up on the other end of the floor, by season’s end he will be Findlay Preps all time leading scorer. The same can be said about Brown he is a good kid with incredible talent. The fact of the matter is that the selection committee for the McDonald’s All-American team is flawed.

  • brown has attitude problems. why do you think ZERO big time schools were after him hard? top 20 player ends up at a school that is at rock bottom does not happen unless there is a reason. solid programs dont need that.

turner has baggage. again…some programs are fine with it. others dont need to deal with it. feel free to dismiss it….but that doesnt mean its not there.

guards teague, kabongo, young, cook, rivers, beal, cadwell, blackshear, brown, hairiston, are better then johnson. also guys like gilchrist and thomas who could play guard are better then him too. so at least 12 guys are better then him. i like johnson, good 2nd tier player.

  • Cook is not better than Johnson and Kabongo and Johnson play on the same team and more times than not Johnson is the best player on the court although I do think Kabongo is deserving of his nomination. You go and ask any recruiter with anything and they all say that Brown, Turner and Johnson should be on the team. Turner does not have baggage and I’m not sure any fan of Calipari and Kentucky should be implying that they do not take players with baggage. Do the names Cousins, Orton, Bledsoe and Jones sound familiar?

  • well according to everyone who does this for a living, cook is better then johnson. but you are entitled to your opinion. i’ll believe everyone else.

if you want a PG and your choice is kabongo or johnson, everyone who isnt a zona fan would take kabongo. if you want a SG and your choice is johnson or any of the other 10 guys i listed…again anyone who isnt a zona fan is probably picking guys from the list. johnson is good, just lots of better guards and there are only so many spots on the team.

what baggage did orton, bledsoe, and jones have? i realize you are defensive and want to feel like your guys are worthy, but you shouldnt just make stuff up. ask those same recruiters about browns attitude and see what they say.

pac-10 just isnt getting talent. its not a east coast bias. its just reality.

  • BC, I’ve got no problem with UK. I just want to clarify that KU went to 3 Final Fours last decade, not 1. No biggie–just wanted to point that out.

    Carry on.

  • but only 1 with self right? thats what i was getting at.

  • Yep, that’s correct. In 7 years at KU he’s been to three Elite 8s (finally getting over the hump in ’08). Of course the haters are going to always point out two 1st round & one 2nd round exits. I do agree with that other poster with respect to KU being the model of consistency. It’s actually hard to believe they’ve gone to the NCAA tourney every year since 1990.

  • Bledsoe’s grades that he “earned”, Jones committed to UW then went back on that the next day plus his attitude issues on the court of not trying all the time. Jones could have and should have been rated higher coming out of high school but because he did not always play he wasn’t. I’m not saying Johnson is a better PG than Kabongo but that he is the best player on his team on a consistent basis. Here are the changes that should have been made: Turner in and Cook out; Brown in Plumlee out; Johnson in and Williams out. This years class has much more talent in the guards spots than up front so players that made the team because of attrition should be removed.

  • ku is a VERY strong program. i think uk went to 17 or 18 straight until the disaster knows as BCG came into lexington. it was an interesting 2 years to say the least.

  • stop the presses…..elite HS player that doesnt give 100% all the time. if thats your definition of baggage, then basically every player comes with it. none of these guys play as hard as they should. its one of the biggest adjustments from HS to college. and as far as switching committments….i have no idea why its a big deal. it happens in football ALL the time and no one cares. grasping….hard!!!!

evan daniels and others arent as bothered by johnson getting in. zona fans just coming off as desperate.

i’d put young and mcelmore in there before some of those guys. not to mention miller (injury) and daniels who is a 5th year guy.

  • To all those IGNORANT East ppl.. like Boston…lol

The McD selection members are ALMOST 100% non-West people. Only two members are from the West.

So, this Selection is just the McEast roster.
(East I roster and East II Roster).

The members did everyone a disservice for being lazy and not being objective….
These OLD folks can not stay up so LATE or WHAT!!
    LMFAO…

Here is the list of the LAUGHABLE selection members.

    http://sportsontheside.net/McDonalds_11_files/2011_SelectionProcess_CommitteeLists.pdf

  • JW, it’s not just the “old folks” that can’t stay up & watch the games out west. Most of us have to work the next morning. Face it, that’s why your boy Williams isn’t getting the love. He’s a really good player, but not many people see him play (just highlights). The Pac 10 or 12 or whatever they’re calling it next year should move those game times up to at least 7pm central. I know it means 5pm out west, but it’s not like the fans are as rabid out there. I saw KU play in Pauley last year and it was embarrassing.

And BC you’re right about McLemore. His problem is Cook just doesn’t pass the ball much. And DD would’ve definitely been there had he not been a 5th year guy.

  • Boston- that shows how much you don’t know 5th years are not eligible to play in the McDonald’s game and on behalf of Q. Miller it is too bad he has been out all year but this is not the NBA All-Star game were fans vote for the players. The selection committee is supposed to go out and watch High School and AAU games and it is commonly known that a lot of those on the McDonald’s selection committee no longer make an effort to watch many of these games. Here is what Daniels wrote about the selection his two main snubs are Turner and Brown. While Bianncardi and Telep said they thought Johnson was the biggest snub. (and they both voted for Johnson) As for the east coast bias stuff that’s crap. It’s purely coincidental that most of the selection committee is on the east coast.

    http://evandaniels.yardbarker.com/blog/evandaniels/mcdonalds_rosters_snubs_thoughts/4143208?new_post=true

Rockchalk–while I tend to agree that most west coast fans are horrible and L.A. fans are the worst of the bunch. Do not generalize so much the fans in Seattle and Tucson really back their University programs and sell out even when the teams are not that great. Case in point last year UA still had sell outs and lead the Pac-10 in attendance. Also I would rather the conference change the name to Pac-12 since that will be the number of teams in the conference. I find it silly that the Big 12 will have 10 schools and the Big 10 will 12 schools in it.

  • i’m well aware of the rules. miller and daniels are better then brown, johnson, and turner and its not close. read my post again and you see i make reference to millers injury and daniels being a 5th year guy. if it wasnt for this stuff….those guys would be in…further pushing johnson, brown, and turner down the pecking order.

johnson is a very good player. he is a top 50 player, not top 20 player. as a result….i dont get why someone would be so outraged when he isnt selected. just looks like zona fans are grasping for attention.

  • Turner is still better than Cook. Yes, Miller is great and Daniels is good but I’m not sure he is hands down better than Johnson mainly because of what Johnson did to him when they played earlier this year. Johnson held Daniels scoreless which is pretty impressive considering the Daniels is 6-7 and Johnson is 6-2. But I doubt you watched that game. Johnson is actually rated the #23 prospect by ESPN so by your rational he should in along with Turner who is rated higher by every recruiting service than Cook. Also Wroten Jr. would be in head of Cook and Blackshear if the committee went by ranks.

  • UA, I’m not crazy about still calling it the Big 12, but I really do believe the conference will eventually get back to 12 teams. I’m not one who believes the conference is doomed. UT got what they wanted–their own TV deal. They get to run everything so they are very happy.

As for generalizing the Pac 10 as a whole you make a valid point. I base a lot of my belief from my best friend who worked in Orange County and then moved to outside Phoenix (Gilbert, AZ I think). Now that he’s back here in KC for the last 4-5 years he constantly remarks about the apathy towards collegiate athletics out west compared to other parts of the country. Of course, his view could also be skewed by the fact that KC is a real hotbed with KU, MU, and K-State right here. Plus, he grew up in Ohio so he’s a huge Buckeyes fan. You’ll appreciate this–he always says there’s a huge parallel between the OSU football fanbase to the KU basketball fanbase: total arrogance. He’s probably right.

  • why would anyone watch a HS game? they are mostly crap. Davis’ team is absurdly bad. they got slaughtered by whitney young. is that any reflection on Daivs who didnt play his best game? i think john wall’s team had a losing record. dont know why anyone would try to compare and contrast players in HS match ups.

wroten hasnt improved. he fell in love with his ranking and never got better. has no shot, terrible shot selection, and now after a knee injury isnt the same athlete. and on top of that….is a me first player. which is why his stock in those rankings drop and will continue to drop.

the west just doesnt have many good basketball players and the ones it does have…it doesnt keep. that should be your concern…not who gets into an all star game and who doesnt.

  • Looks like the B kensucky Cat and Woody… do NOT have the VOTING conducted by the EAST selection members.

SO.. SHOW US how everyone VOTED!

McDonalds needs to PUBLISH how every member voted in the ROSTER selection!

    And THEN YOU will SEE….
the McEast Game. (East I roster vs East II roster)

    SHOW the VOTING per member!

  • AZ,

This is the FIRST site to discuss the McD AA selection and its East Coast Biase.

And more and more are jumping on board.

McDonalds needs to RELEASE the VOTING !!!

“Just watch “SportsCenter” a couple times a week and you can tell that the media revolves around New York and Boston. Meaning once again, the West Coast is at a disadvantage”…

“Arguably the three biggest snubs are Wroten, Jabari Brown (Oakland, Calif.) and Nick Johnson (Henderson, Nev.), all players based on the West Coast, and all three committed to Pac-10 colleges: Wroten to Washington, Brown to Oregon, and Johnson to Arizona. Other notable snubs with arguable Top-25 credentials include Arizona-bound Josiah Turner (Sacramento, Calif.) and Arizona State-bound Jahii Carson (Mesa, Ariz.).

How much are this year’s rosters lacking in West Coast talent? The “West” team includes Austin Rivers, who is from Florida; Adonis Thomas from Memphis; and Khem Birch, who plays in Massachusetts and is originally from Montreal, Quebec. The rest of the West squad is full of guys from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Texas, alongside the aforementioned Kabongo from Nevada and Wiltjer from Oregon.”..per Dimemagazine

    http://dimemag.com/2011/02/mcdonalds-all-american–east-coast-bias/

  • @JW, as BostonCat pointed out earlier, College hoops hardly exists beyond Kansas. That being said, Ill, Ind, Mich, and Tx are actually West for all practical purposes.

  • Woody I did not mean to imply that the Big 12 was going to crumble. I doubt that happens too. When you have schools like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri that have strong programs in multiple the conference will survive some reshuffling. I would also argue that the fans in Phoenix and L.A. are not just apathetic when it comes to college sports but sports in general. People come late and leave early to NFL, NBA and MLB games which is beyond me but that may have something to do with me getting into sports while a youngster in Chicago. Boston I like watching potential UA recruits and players that have committed to UA and other top high school prospects. When a player that is 6-2 and shuts down a highly regarded 6-7 player one tends to take notice especially when Daniels plays on a team that is traditionally strong. And yes the Pac-10 has let a lot talent slip out of the west coast the last couple of years but I think that trend is starting to change. UA for one has two of the best players in the west coming in next year with the possibility of adding Chol plus B. Ashely is high on them and UA already has a commitment from Grant Jerrett not to mention the recruits Miller will be taking from NYC.

  • Jessie, I’ve got one question for you? Why do you post at all of these sites with all of these different handles? It seems really childish. You started a thread over at the phog using the name TheRise and all you did was rant against Kentucky & talk about east coast hype? If you hate them so much why not post that garbage at catspause? I’m not a huge UA fan (because of you), but I’m not going over to goasshats & post a bunch of garbage.

As for all of the burger hype I’ll just throw this out there. I know people can recite a bunch of stats regarding NCAA Championship odds in relation to having players from the burger game…I just don’t buy it. KU is 24-1 and will probably be ranked #1 in the country on Monday (unfortunately). The Jayhawks only have 1 burger member (Josh Selby) and he’s missed 12 games this year. It’s the complimentary players that will win championships. Brady Morningstar & Tyrel Reed were not highly recruited out of the state of Kansas, but they’ve both been very good 4 year players. I just think there’s way too much hype about that stupid burger game.

  • JW’s IP address has been blocked by all of UA’s fan sites except of the local paper blog and there he/she can not use the JW because that was blocked because JW plagiarizes information. On another note no self respecting UA fan pays goazblows.com for their information that is two weeks old and may make one trip to watch recruits a year. Also every fan base has their JW’s unfortunately. But Woody I will ask you do you think Texas should be ranked higher than KU on Monday? I think both teams are playing as well as anyone in the country.

  • Great question, UA. I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, UT beat KU in Lawrence a few weeks ago so there’s that…but if that’s the litmus test Pitt beat UT earlier in the season. I’m not a big fan of “who beat who.” I will say I think it will be a great game in KC if they square off in the Big 12 Championship. Right now, KU might have the best offensive team in the country & Texas has the best defensive team. I don’t have a problem either way when it comes to the polls Monday. Maybe UT should jump KU based on the fact that Selby will be out a while longer and TRob is out two weeks? Sorry to sort of dodge the question, but I’m honestly not sure.
