Duke Recruiting Kyle Anderson

NEWARK, N.J. — Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski called St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley to inform him that Duke will start recruiting 6-foot-8 junior point guard Kyle Anderson, according to Kyle Sr.

“It’s an honor to be noticed by Duke’s staff,” Anderson said Saturday night at halftime of the UConn-Seton Hall game.

“Coach K is a Hall of Fame coach. Not a lot of people get to go from Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer, so that’s pretty exciting.”

He added: “I like Duke. I could see myself going there.”

Anderson did grow up as a North Carolina fan, though.

Anderson’s list currently includes St. John’s, Florida, Villanova, Xavier, Miami, Seton Hall, Kentucky, Louisville, Pitt, UCLA, Arizona, Wake Forest, Georgetown, UMass and La Salle.

Seton Hall and St. John’s are pursuing Anderson pretty heavily,  though, and he likes the idea of staying home, too.

“They’re close so that’s a good look right there,” he said.

Anderson was the MVP of the recent SNY Invitational, in which St. Anthony beat Mount Vernon and Boys & Girls to win its first title.

On Wednesday, he made SportsCenter’s Top 10 highlights with a dunk during Hurley’s 1,000th career victory.
