DePaul coach Oliver Purnell said he first began to anticipate Jeremy Hazell’s possible return on Monday, when Hazell went to see a hand specialist for his broken left wrist.
Two days later, after a nearly two-month layoff due to the wrist injury suffered Nov. 19 and a gunshot wound suffered Christmas Day during a botched armed robbery attempt, Hazell went out and scored 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting in a 78-67 over Purnell’s club.
“Every now and then there’s a guy that it’s just like riding a bike and he’s one of those special talents, or special athletes, that can do that,” Purnell said on Thursday’s Big East conference call. “Certain guys it’s not a timing problem. Other guys it takes a long time.”
