Tom Savage, once the quarterback of the future at Rutgers, will complete his college career somewhere else.
The University announced Saturday that Savage, a sophomore, and freshman running back Casey Turner have been granted conditional releases.
“I thought about it with my family and we just thought it was the best decision for me,” Savage told ScarletNation.com. “It is just a fresh start somewhere else.”

Savage and his family should look into Vanderbilt. If he’s willing to sit out a year, his redshirt year that he never got, he could be in a great situation as Coach Franklin should have his offense in place by then, he would have a talented group of veteran running backs and receivers and the offensive line will feature a bunch of veterans as well. Franklin wants to run a system that is custom made for Savage’s talents and he’s looking for a quarterback. The only experienced guy he has right now, will be a senior in 2011 and Jordan Rodgers will be a 23-year old redshirt junior who may not comeback for 2012. They haven’t recruited a QB yet either, so the depth chart is even more flexible for someone like Tom to come in and compete and likely be the man in 2012.
And of course, he’d get a great education in the process and play in a great, friendly city, and for a coach that wants to turn Vanderbilt into the next Stanford on the gridiron.
If I was the Savage family, I’d approach Vanderbilt, because it could be a perfect opportunity.
