Memphis native Ferrakohn Hall is returning home.
The former Seton Hall forward has decided to transfer to his hometown Memphis Tigers. He was eligible to practice Thursday, but can’t play until Dec. 15, 2011.
“I’m a Memphis Tiger,” he said by text.
The 6-foot-7 Hall considered visiting Auburn and Alabama but ultimately decided that wasn’t necessary.
“We are welcoming home one of the city’s products in Ferrakohn to the Tigers program,” head coach Josh Pastner said. “Although he can’t suit up for a game until the end of the 2011 fall semester, I expect the addition of Ferrakohn to the squad to provide an impact for our team at every practice, starting Thursday and moving forward.”
In his one-and-a-half seasons at Seton Hall, Hall played in 39 games and made two starts. Hall averaged 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds, while shooting 52.2 percent from the field.
This season, Hall played in all 10 games and averaged 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds, before announcing he would transfer from the Seton Hall program in mid-December. He played in his final game in a Pirate uniform on Dec. 19 versus NJIT and had eight points and four rebounds in 23 minutes.
Hall scored a career-high 15 points in the Pirates’ 104-79 win at UMass on Dec. 11.
Hall was a 2009 Tennessee All-State first team pick at White Station High School. As a senior in 2008-09, he averaged 15.4 points and 9.7 boards in helping the Spartans to the 2009 TSSAA Class AAA state crown, the school’s first championship since 2004.
In other transfer news, former Minnesota guard Devoe Joseph is considering West Virginia, Oregon, Baylor, Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Niagara, according to Ro Russell of Grassroots Canada.
Joseph, a junior combo guard who led the Gophers into the Big Ten tournament championship game and NCAA tournament last March, averaged 11.3 points this season.
He played his final game for Minnesota on New Year’s Eve, a 71-62 loss at Michigan State in which he scored five points.
