Brown, Edwin Honored by Big East

The Big East Conference named Pittsburgh forward Gilbert Brown and Seton Hall forward Fuquan Edwin the winners of the conference’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week ending Dec. 19.

Brown was named Big East Player of the Week. In Pittsburgh’s only game of the week, Brown scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field in a 97-64 win over Md.-Eastern Shore.  The senior from Harrisburg, Pa., was 4-of-5 from 3-point range, grabbed five rebounds and dealt five assists in 24 minutes of action.  For the season, Brown is averaging 10.9 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Edwin, the former Paterson Catholic star who was named Big East Rookie of the Week, averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week.  He recored career highs with 17 points and nine rebounds in a 78-51 victory over Longwood.  In a 68-45 win over NJIT, Edwin scored a team-high 14 points and matched his career high of nine boards.  For the season, Edwin is averaging 8.7 points and 3.7 rebounds.

Carleton Scott, Notre Dame, F, Sr.
Did not miss a shot in Notre Dame’s 88-62 win over Stony Brook.  He was 8-of-8 from the floor, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range.  He finished with with 20 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Jonathan Mitchell, Rutgers, F, Sr.
Averaged 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week.  Shot 56.7 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Kris Joseph, Syracuse, F, Jr.
Recorded 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and did not commit a turnover in 38 minutes in an 83-77 win over Iona.
Corey Fisher, Villanova, G, Sr.
Recorded 21 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 78-59 victory over Delaware.
Kevin Jones, West Virginia, F, Jr.
Had 15 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots in a 74-63 win over previously undefeated Cleveland State.
