Here’s my recent interview with St. Anthony junior point guard Kyle Anderson and Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.
Note that Anderson, the No. 1 point guard in the Class of 2012, is wearing a UConn sweatshirt. He said it had no special significance, other than that his older brother, Jamar Wilkins, was captain of UConn football coach Randy Edsall’s first team.
The 6-foot-8 Anderson has recently taken unofficials to Villanova, Georgetown, UCLA, UMass and Xavier. He also took in a game at Rutgers. Yet he remains fairly wide open in his recruitment.
“There’s going to be most of the country that he can choose from,” Hurley said. “We just want to be sure that he makes a good decision for him.”
With Hurley just 16 victories shy of 1,000 for his career, St. Anthony opens the season Friday. The Friars will play Mount Vernon in the SNY Invitational Jan. 28-29, an event that will feature four future Big East guards in Myles Mack of St. Anthony (Rutgers), Jabarie Hinds of Mount Vernon (West Virginia), Mike Taylor of Boys & Girls (Rutgers) and Jermaine Sanders of Rice (Cincinnati.).
