Chandler Recruitment Remains in Flux

Ever since Michael Chandler decommitted from Xavier on the first day of the early signing period last month, not much has been heard from the 6-foot-10 center from Lawrence North in Indianapolis.

And according to his coach, Jack Keefer, there won’t be any significant movement in his recruitment until he gets his test score in order.

“He’s got to get a higher test score,” Keefer said Monday by phone. “If he can get that done, he’ll be fine.”

The No. 4 center in the Class of 2011, Chandler committed to Louisville as a junior, only to decommit. Then he surprised a lot of people by pledging to Xavier after a visit this fall.

Lately the word has been that UConn might have an inside track since Chandler plays AAU ball with future Huskies guard Ryan Boatright. There have also been rumblings that St. John’s coach Steve Lavin, who still has two scholarships to give in the spring, was pursuing Chandler.

Keefer said he hadn’t heard anything about St. John’s and insisted that hometown IU “is still in there.”

“They’ve been more loyal than anybody,” Keefer said of Indiana.

Still, don’t expect anything significant until Chandler improves his test score and academic situation.

“He’s gotta prove that he can do it,” Keefer said.
