Pearl, Tennessee Shake Off Heckling to Win NIT

NEW YORK – With 51 seconds remaining in Tennessee’s game against Villanova Friday in the NIT Tip-Off championship at Madison Square Garden, Scotty Hopson stepped to the foul line amidst a chorus of heckling.

Facing a crowd of Villanova fans who let loose another round of “Cheat-er, cheat-er” chants, Hopson missed the first free throw but made the second with a smile on his face.

“When I missed that first one, I hadn’t even thought about it,” Hopson said of the insults directed at Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl and his players. “Then they said it, I was like, ‘Hey, I knew I had to make the second one then.’”
