Barrage of Negative Recruiting Didn’t Deter Boatright

Tanesha Boatright said the negative recruiting came fast and furious toward her son, Ryan, as he considered attending UConn.

“I won’t name names but there’s been a lot of other schools that have used it to their advantage,” Tanesha said Monday night by phone after her 5-foot-11 son, a senior at East Aurora (Ill.) High, verbally committed to play for the Huskies beginning in 2011.

Those other schools pointed to the NCAA investigation of UConn, the uncertainty facing the program’s future because of that investigation and the age and health of head coach Jim Calhoun as reasons for concern.
