Derrick Favors, a 6-foot-9 forward from South Atlanta High ranked the No. 1 center in the Class of 2009 by Rivals, has a final six of Georgia, Georgia Tech, UConn, Memphis, Kentucky and Florida State.
“When you have two outstanding in-state programs, it is always in your best interests to take a close look at them, and that’s what Derrick is doing,” South Atlanta coach Michael Reddick told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Favors will visit Georgia Tech this weekend after visiting Georgia two weeks ago.
“Georgia Tech, of course, is right here in the city, and that’s always a great thing,” Reddick said. “It would allow people around here, such as his family and his friends, the opportunity to see him play in person. And Georgia Tech has a great tradition of putting players in the NBA on a regular basis. Derrick is excited about this weekend.”Also, remember the name Deniz Kilicli, a 6-9, 250-pound Turkish native at Mountain State Academy in West Virginia.
“He is more skilled than Kevin Love,” a UCLA assistant told the Register-Herald of West Virginia on Friday. “They’re different type players, but he is more skilled than Kevin.”
Kilicli has already received visits from West Virginia and Kentucky, as well as UCLA, Oklahoma, LSU and N.C. State.
