Nadal Not Afraid of Federer’s Picture

NEW YORK – Rafael Nadal says he isn’t jinxed by Roger Federer’s picture after all.

After the New York Post reported Sunday that Nadal on Tuesday night “refused to get into one of the Mercedes transportation vans” that featured a promotional picture of Federer with his hands triumphantly in the air, Nadal said it wasn’t true.

“Yeah, well, if you know me, you know that I not gonna do,” top-seeded Nadal said after handling Gilles Simon of France, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round of the U.S. Open. “This is very stupid thing. I was in a van of the picture of Roger, both sides of the van, like 15 times these two weeks. So that’s very stupid thing. That’s never happen.”

**No. 4 Andy Murray suffered the biggest upset of this U.S. Open when he lost in 4 sets to Stan Wawrinka, Federer’s Swiss countryman.
