NEW YORK — At 30 years old, Venus Williams is closer to the end of her tennis career than the beginning.
Since 1980, only two women — Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert — have won multiple Grand Slam titles after the age of 30. But with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 fourth-round victory over No. 16 Shahar Peer of Israel, Williams is now in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, three victories from the first major after her 30th birthday.
