Isaiah Williams, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound combo guard from Newark, visited Iona Friday and is considering the Gaels along with several other schools.
“It was good,” Williams said of the visit. “I like everything; it was good. I knew some of the players, Jayon James, Rashon Dwight and Jamel Jenkins.”
First-year Iona coach Tim Cluess and his staff have done a great job this offseason building a strong recruiting class that includes James, guard Sean Armand, former Seton Hall forward Mike Glover, 6-8 shooter Aleksander Kesic and 6-4 wing Randy DeZouvre.
“[Williams] really enjoyed the coaches,” said Vincent Robinson, Williams’ coach at The Robinson School Phoenix. “He loves [assistant coach Jared] Grasso. He knows most of the players. It’s in his top five schools.”
Williams is also considering DePaul, Marshall, UTEP, Iowa State, Robert Morris and Maryland Eastern Shore.
Robinson said he plans to set up visits to DePaul, Robert Morris, UTEP and Marshall on Tuesday.
He also said Williams could enter college in January as a partial qualifier.
Asked when he might decide, Williams said, “Probably in November. After I visit DePaul.”
He added: “I’m trying to be a go-to guy. I’m a shooter but I can score in all types of ways.”
