UConn’s Walker Making Most of Summer

NEW YORK — If this does turn out to be Kemba Walker’s last season at UConn, he is making the most of his final collegiate summer.

The 6-foot-1 Walker, a rising junior point guard who starred at Manhattan Rice High School, has already trained with Chris Paul, Deron Williams and LeBron James at their summer camps and this week he is in New York playing with a Select team of college players against Team USA as they prepare for the World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey later this month.

“It’s humbling,” Walker said after practice Wednesday at John Jay College in Manhattan. “It lets you know the things you have to work on and just how close I am and we are to getting to that level.”

  • This kid is going to be an absolute monster this year.

  • too bad the rest of the team isnt that good.

  • my dear boy, they’re just young, not untalented.

  • Gotta love Kemba. This team is extremely young but they can shoot – something uconn couldn’t do last year

  • its the summer, no one is playing so everyone thinks their guys are talented. but reality is very different

okwandu is useless as is beverly. as SRs if they were going to be anything they would be it by now.

there are no JRs other then walker who is really good.

the only SOs that matter are Oriaki, Majok, Coombs. Oriaki has some tools but is going to take a while. Majok was obviously very over rated. Coombs didnt show anything last year. if he was talented as you say he at least would showed something.

the incoming freshman are ok. when you go scrambling overseas last minute to find anything you are grasping and its a clear indication you dont currently have what you want. no one that you drool over and wish you had on your team.

  • When is the last time your boys made the final four? UConn made it in 2009. stop living in the past with your “talented” freshmen who disappear after one year

  • hating on uk isnt going to make your team better. middle of the pack big east team at best. be lucky to get into the NCAAT. you could have attacked my position….instead you attack uk. that just makes me believe my position even more. and furthermore you obviously believe it too.

i’d rather watch my team of talented freshman who are project to lead uk to a top seed in the NCAAT then 25 games of frustration where you have to find hope in “next year”.

  • That’s right! you guys made it in the 90’s. STFU

  • no i wont because i didnt say anything wrong. unlike yourself who is just talking smack to make yourself feel better.

  • We don’t have big expectations this year. You are the one that took shots at the incoming players. I’m just hoping for a tourney bid with this incoming group. YES, Kentucky should be better than us this year. UK will always get great players (bc it’s a great program), but u can thank the NCAA for getting every elite HS player from us
