Mookie Playing with Clippers

A few folks have asked me what became of Darryl “Mookie” Watkins. Turns out the former Paterson Catholic and Syracuse University big man is on the summer league roster of the Los Angeles Clippers. Watkins is averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds in three games with the Clips, who drafted Indiana freshman guard Eric Gordon with their lottery pick.

Watkins played briefly last year with the Sacramento Kings, scoring 13 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench in a preseason win over Portland, drawing praise from Kings coach Reggie Theus for his efforts.

“Darryl Watkins gave us a big boost down the stretch,” Theus said. “It’s important to have that inside presence.”

The Kings ultimately let Watkins go and he ended up in the NBDL.
