Agent: Shannon Brown Likely Staying With Lakers

Shannon Brown’s agent says the Lakers guard will likely stay with Los Angeles instead of joining the Knicks.

“I don’t think he’s going to wind up in New York,” Mark Bartelstein said Wednesday night. “The Knicks did a great job. I don’t think it’s going to be in New York. It doesn’t have anything to do with the Knicks. It has everything has to do with what the Lakers have to offer.”

Bartelstein said the 6-4 Brown would make a final announcement Thursday.

“At the end of the day I don’t think he’s going to wind up going there [to New York] but we’ll know for sure tomorrow,” Bartelstein said.

Brown averaged 8.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists as a role player as the Lakers won the second of back-to-back titles.

Bartelstein said Knicks president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D’Antoni did their best to woo Brown to New York.

“They did a really good job on talking about different things that they have to offer, and his role and what they envision him doing.” he said. “Donnie and Mike did a terrific job recruiting him.”

In the end, though, Brown is intrigued by the chance at winning a third straight ring in L.A.

“He’s got a chance to win a third championship,” Bartelstein said.
