Barry to Visit ASU, St. John’s; Iona Lands Shooter

The future of the St. John’s basketball program could take a major turn later this month.

Remi Barry, a 6-foot-7 French national from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High, will visit Arizona State the weekend June 11-13 and St. John’s June 18-20.

Barry said he was looking forward to the St.  John’s visit to “see if I like the campus, the people, the city. See if I feel like home or not, if I’m comfortable or not.”

He will then make a decision between those two programs and UCLA sometime later this month.

Arizona State is also in the mix for Kyle Cain, a 6-7 wing from New Hampton (N.H.) Prep, who is also considering West Virginia, Illinois and Alabama. Cain is currently visiting ASU.

Barry, considered a potential future NBA player, tripped from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High to UCLA May 16 and said he enjoyed it.

IONA LANDS SHOOTER

Iona secured a verbal commitment from 6-8 shooter Aleksander Kesic of Huntington (West Va.) Prep, a native of Serbia.

He also visited St. Bonaventure and Toledo.

“It’s a steal for Iona,” Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford said. “I think he’s going to be an All-Conference-type player for them eventually.

“He had some high majors on him early. A lot of them wanted that slasher/athletic kid who can make plays. He’s a system guy who is a really great 3-point shooter. He can guard multiple positions, can guard the wings, can guard the post.”

Kesic averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds playing alongside Louisville commits Justin Coleman and Gorgui Dieng.

“He did just as good a job guarding [Ohio State-bound big man] Jared Sullinger as Gorgui,” Fulford said, referring to the team’s loaded schedule. “He did a great job on [Kentuckiy commit] Doron Lamb of Oak Hill. He has an extremely high basketball IQ and moves great without the ball.”

Kesic joins 6-2 combo guard Sean Armand in Iona’s 2010 recruiting class.

Memphis, Fordham and Rhode Island also offered Armand.

  • france and asu share 2 things in common — irrelevant bball teams and non-existent fan bases. remi should feel right at home.

  • “Aleksander Kesic; He has an extremely high basketball IQ and moves great without the ball.”

in other words, he lacks talent. don’t they use similar words to describe ugly girls for blind dates. i.e., she has tremendous back-seat IQ and balls great without the moves.

  • Good lead into Doron Lamb….
