Remi Barry to Decide in June

Remi Barry plans to visit St. John’s and Arizona State and then make a decision between those two programs and UCLA sometime in June.

The 6-foot-7 Barry said he will visit St. John’s and Arizona State “most likely the second week of June.”

He tripped from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High to UCLA May 16 and said he enjoyed it.

“It was really, really good,” Barry said. “I liked the campus. It’s a really nice campus. I like the guys over there. The players are really nice, really friendly. I like the coach [Ben Howland], how he pushes them and makes them work really hard.”

A French national with NBA potential, Barry is averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the YBA Dawgs AAU program.

His AAU coach, Doc Haynes, previously said St. John’s was in the strongest position to land him.

“Right now he’s considering St. John’s as the frontrunner,” Haynes said.

St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin has already landed 6-7 wing Dwayne Polee from Los Angeles Westchester and would like to make Barry his second Golden State commit.

Barry says all three schools left on his list are equal.

“I don’t have any favorite at all,” he said. “I have top three. UCLA, St. John’s and Arizona State.”

Haynes said Kentucky, Texas, Baylor and North Carolina also became recently involved after Barry recently had some coursework approved. But no visits have been set to those schools.

“[The paperwork] says basically that if I finish all my work I’ll be good,” Barry said. “I’m really happy. It feels good.”

As for when he’ll make a decision, Barry added: “Before the end of June, maybe like the week after my last visit, a few days after my last visit.”
