Jayvaughn Pinkston certainly helped his stock at the Reebok All-American Camp in Philly last week.
The 6-5 junior combo forward from Bishop Loughlin (N.Y.) scored a team-high 12 points to lead Finish to a 75-66 victory in the Underclassmen All-Star Game, but his teammate Ashton Pankey was name Co-MVP.
St. John’s, Rutgers, Villanova and Xavier have all offered, according to New Heights director Kimani Young.
“I want to go away for school,” Pinkston said. That may rule out the locals. Still, he has plenty of time to decide.
“It’s early, so I don’t know,” Pinkston said.
A strong, wide-bodied player who can put the ball on the deck as well as rebound and defend, Pinkston has a bright future ahead of him.
“I think Jayvaughn can go as far as Jayvaughn wants to go,” Loughlin coach Khalid Green said. “He has the physical capability as long as he puts in the work. He can be a significant player in high school. He can be a three in college. Next year we want to have him out on the perimeter a little more.”
Pinkston wants to continue to work on his ballhandling and shooting going forward, but he may have to also become more of a team leader next year if Doron Lamb leaves Loughlin for Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. Lamb hasn’t formally announced that he’s leaving but Pinkston seems to think he is.
“We lost Doron,” he said. “I’ll just play a little harder.”
