Chaz Williams to Transfer from Hofstra

Chaz Williams, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound freshman point guard from Brooklyn, has gotten his release from Hofstra and will transfer.

“I made it official. I got my release,” he said Wednesday.

Providence, Rutgers and La Salle are possible destinations for Williams, who averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last season for the Pride.

“I’m just going to see what interest I get and just weigh my options,” he said.

Wherever he lands, Williams wants to win.

“I want to be the best player I can be and try to bring a championship to wherever I go,” he said.

Williams, who played high school ball at Bishop Ford, said the recent coaching changes at Hofstra did not lead to his decision.

“It wasn’t the coaching change,” he said. “Me and my family thought it would be good if I take my career my elsewhere.”

Williams said he wished the best for Hofstra coach Mo Cassara and his teammates.

“I’m going to miss the school and my teammates because Hofstra was a good program,” he said.

Williams is the second Hofstra player to transfer this month.

Halil Kanacevic, a 6-8, 245-pound freshman power forward, left for St. Joe’s.
