St. Joe’s Leading for Former Johnnies Recruit

Former St. John’s signee Ronald Roberts is considering three schools and hopes to decide within about a week.

“He’s leaving today [Friday] for Virginia and he’s going to Georgia Tech either Monday-Tuesday or Tuesday-Wednesday or next weekend. I’m trying to find out if I can get him out of school next week,” St. Peter’s Prep coach Mike Kelly said Friday.

“Then he’s going to make a decision based upon Georgia Tech, Virginia or St. Joseph,” Kelly added.

Asked when the 6-foot-7 Roberts would decide, Kelly said, “Next weekend.”

St. Joe’s coach Phil Martelli put the full-court press on Roberts after he secured his release from St. John’s and now the Atlantic 10 school is the favorite.

“I still want to check out the other schools, but I think St. Joe’s right now is on the top of my list,” Roberts said April 17 after the Jordan Brand Regional Game at MSG.

“St. Joe’s has gotta be considered the leader only because they’ve recruited him the longest,” Kelly added. “Their incoming freshman class is superlative.”

St. Joe’s has three signed players in 6-9 C.J. Aiken, 6-6 Daryus Quarles, and 6-3 Langston Galloway and just got a verbal from 6-3 shooting guard Pat Swilling Jr. of Brother Martin (La.) High.

“With the kid Pat Swilling they just got a verbal from, he’s a really solid player,” Kelly said.

“With C.J. Aiken, Langston Galloway and Daryus Quarles, those are  four quality kids that give them a top national recruiting class and I think that makes it very attractive for Ron and everybody else.”
