Kadeem Jack to Prep School

Kadeem Jack was set to announce his college choice Wednesday on SNY.tv, but instead appears headed to prep school, possibly South Kent (Conn).

“Kadeem said that he is not making any commitments to college. He is considering prep school,” Rice High School coach Maurice Hicks wrote in a text.

The 6-foot-9 Jack is considering UConn, Arizona, Arkansas, St. John’s and Miami. Instead, it appears he will spend a year prepping in order to mature physically and basketball-wise.

“I’ve reached out to the family and obviously I would love to have Kadeem at South Kent if that’s something he feels he would like to do,” South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson said by phone.

South Kent has become a second home to many New York-area players, including Kevin Parrom (Arizona), Omari Lawrence (St. John’s), Louisville commit Russell Smith and Pittsburgh commit J.J. Moore.

Jack put up 21 points and 8 rebounds for the City Team in a 137-133 loss to the Suburban Team in the Jordan Brand Regional Game April 17 at MSG.

Jefferson said Paterson Catholic junior forward Derrick Randall was also headed to South Kent. The 6-8 junior is too old to play high school ball in New Jersey next season and Paterson Catholic recently announced it is closing in June.

  • Arizona – falling flat in its recruiting this year. What once could have included Selby, Lamb, Terrence Jones, Jack is a much diminished class

  • Now Arizona can pick up Eloy Vargas who is much more polished right now and is a very good post player. Win win for UA.

  • except his grades suck and it will take a mammoth effort to make it into school this fall. another year of JUCO is likely.

more then likely lose-lose for zona.

  • BostonCat, you have a copy of his transcript? Please share your knowledge.

  • Ya it would be if they land vargas , which is not a sure thing.
Nice move by Jack to draw out his recruitment then pull this shit a day before he is set to announce. What a class act by him and his handlers. Bottom line is Jack isnt ready to play productive minutes in college right now. And I bet Sean Miller is about done recruiting him after this.

  • His coach said he had straight A’s at Miami-Dade. Not sure where you are getting your info.

  • All accounts I have read say vargas got straight A’s fall semester and is finishing strong this semester. So why would another year of Juco be in order? Is it because he cant go to Kentucky that you spew false info?Or do you have a source?

  • No doubt UofA and miller struck out on the big boys, but by no means is this class diminished. A top 100 player in Mayes, a top 50 in Bejarano, and a 1st team juco all american in Perry, to me that is not bad for a first year coach.
And if they do land vargas they will be a top 25 team next year.

As far as Jack I hope Miller pulls his offer and moves on.

“Grades won’t be an issue this time around as Vargas has had straight A’s while attending Miami-Dade.”

  • Uh, I don’t think it’s to help Jack mature physically and emotionally… how about suffering grades or test scores somewhere. Nothing like a prep school “HGH” shot – “Helping Grades Higher …”.

  • Yes UofA BJ, we are crying ourselves to sleep everynight because we couldn’t get Vargas, thus confirming your suspisions. Or not.

  • Never said you were, but the fact is kentucky could use vargas next year and it is his first choice but the SEC has juco transfer rules that would make him give up a year of eligibility to go their. So he is looking at Zona.
Kentucky will be thin in the post next year and adding a 6’7 leslie isnt going to solve the problem.

  • kentucky will be fine. they have kanter 6’9, harrellson 6-10. they are expecting commitments from two or three of the following: TJones, Leslie, Thornton, Hill

Tjones isnt the washington lock everyone thinks and his interest in KU is mild
Leslie wants to come but knows Cal would rather have Jones
    Hill might not qualify
Thornton is better than Vargas and wont have to sit out

  • Blah Blah Blah, same old shit from you kentucky fans. Can’t wait till friday when jones picks UW and all you idiots say well we didnt need him anyway.

  • bigpapi, no offense, but who told you that T Jones interest in KU is mild? Here’s what he said about his visit:

“The support the players receive at Kansas is something that stands out,” Jones, the No. 13-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2010, told Rivals.com. “Everybody knows who those guys are, and there is a lot of support. Kansas is one of my options, and they are even with the other schools.”

Jones, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound senior from Jefferson High, will sign with either KU, Washington, Kentucky, Oklahoma, UCLA or Oregon at a yet-to-be-determined time Friday at his high school.

“The trip to Kansas was great. I got to see how the team interacts with each other and how it’s a family atmosphere,” said Jones, who told Rivals.com his host was sophomore Tyshawn Taylor and he also spent a lot of time with freshmen Thomas Robinson and Elijah Johnson.

Is KU going to land him? Probably not…I’d say he commits to UW on Friday.

  • Or UK isn’t looking at Vargas because Calipari and Donovan are friends and a) Donovan told Calipari “something” about him or b) won’t recruit him out of their friendship. Just throwing these ideas out into the wind.

  • And no, we aren’t “that” thin at that position because we will have two true post players next season, which sufficiently enough for UK’s system. So no, we don’t need him.

  • Jack would have been nice but with Perry and (hopefully) Vargas along with Sidiki Johnson coming in 2011 we will be loaded in the front court. It’s the back court that I’m worried about. Still, a good class for a young growing team.
