NEW YORK — Josh Selby’s commitment to Kansas is already paying dividends.
After committing to the Jayhawks Saturday night during the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden, Selby said he would try and recruit 6-8 forward Terrence Jones to Kansas.
“I wish I had Doron Lamb but he chose Kentucky but now I’m working on getting Terrence Jones to fill Xavier Henry’s spot,” Selby said.
As it turns out, Selby is having an impact.
After putting up 17 points and 9 rebounds in the Jordan Classic, Jones told reporters he planned to visit Kansas before announcing April 23 or April 30 alongside 6-5 Portland (Ore.) Jefferson teammate Terrence Ross.
“Hopefully, I will get that done,” Jones said, according to the Lawrence Journal World & News. “I have one official visit left. I want to use it.”
Jones, the No. 13 prospect in the Class of 2010, initially said his final five consisted of UCLA, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Oregon and Washington.
Kansas had been on his list prior to that. But with the addition of Selby to the Jayhawks, Bill Self’s club is now back in the running for Jones.
“He’s anxious for me to join him,” Jones told the Lawrence Journal World & News. “He feels it would be best for both of us. Possibly, we could do great things there.”
He added of Selby: “It’s not that many words. It’s pretty much just a, ‘Whatcha want to do man? Whatcha want to do?’”
Jones said last week that he and Ross would announce together either April 23 or April 30.
Ross is considering Kansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Oregon and Washington.
The Jayhawks reportedly have just one scholarship remaining but a team source said the program could take both Jones and Ross.
Asked if they would both go to the same school, Jones said;
“It could happen but I want him to do what’s best for him and me to do what’s best for me,” Jones said. “If that’s together then that’s good. But if it’s not then I’ll respect it.”
In the meantime, Doron Lamb, Kentucky’s latest commit, is working on bringing Jones to the Bluegrass.
Said Lamb: “I’m gonna try and recruit them but I think they’re gonna come to Kentucky, though.”

Nice not sure what to make of it but Self is a good late recruiter. One thing that does have me thinking positively is that on friday when asked about Kansas Jones said we will see what happens tomorrow, makes me think he is serious about playing with Selby. Wishful thinking for now. I see Lamb saying he thinks Jones and Ross will go to UK, but Selby said in an interview if Jones visits KU its a done deal so who knows. I acutally hope Leslie commits to UK and Jones commits to KU. No clue on Ross, but maybe UK or KU if Mornigstar’s dad pays out his pocket for him, which is less likely KU is already guard heavy. This KU and UK recruiting thing is not gonna stop look at the next few years, alot of lists have KU and UK, gonna be some intersting years ahead. Hope to see Jones in Lawrence next year, its not a must but would be nice.

Yep, Self vs. Cal yet again. Makes you wonder what the other schools are doing, but I think Cal/Self have been Spring recruiters of recent. Roy and K did their work in the Fall (Kyrie, Barnes etc).
The “experts” seem to suggest thatT Jones would be a better fit at UK than Leslie.. but since both Leslie and Jones are on the fence, Cal would accept the first one to commit and try a hail-mary on the other. UK has room for Ross but I think it will be hard for him to qualify.
Cal is visiting Perry Ellis today. It will not surprise me to see a UK vs. KU battle for this Kansas kid as well.. curious to hear what KU fans think. If the situation was reversed and he was a Kentucky kid, it would be next-to-impossible to get him out-of-state.
/
jhawk4 / April 19, 2010
Self has been on Ellis for a while now. so has Roy and coach K. i’m gonna be honest, i will be upset if we don’t get him. He is the best in state talent since Wayne Simien

Jayhawk_Jake / April 19, 2010
Perry Ellis will be a Jayhawk, Self was first to offer, at his first game, and Ellis is in Lawrence all the time just stopping by. Cal will get him to listen but I would be shocked if he didnt go to KU. Chicago UK I think same goes for will be hard to get out of Kansas, just as if he was in Kentucky he would be hard to get out. Also Zach Peters 6’9 big man in 2012 is expected to announce for KU wednesday, over UK UNC TEXAS MIZZOU and OU. If Ellis stays in Kansas which most expect that is one sick frontcourt, and to add 7’2 Isaiah Austin in that class who’s dad and Manning are buddies would be amazing, Shabazz Muhommad hope I spelled that right is rumored to be big on KU not sure we will get all of them but if so it could be Kentucky like class form last year. Ill keep my fingers crossed.

suttonku / April 19, 2010
Im hearing that Ross may be headed for the 2011 class because of his grades…And with the amount of guards that will be leaving KU after next season it would make sense for him to come to KU in 2011.
I dont see Self asking any of his players to give up their scholarship for another player. Really we need Jones more than we need Ross. KU needs Jones to give us some depth at the 4 and at the 3.
/
tsmooth / April 19, 2010
Ellis is also high on Memphis because his sister is on the women’s team. Most of the players you listed have a while left in their recruitment, and I do not think all of them will be at KU because they all play in the frontcourt. Isaiah Austin is also very high on TX.
Let things play out, man

ChicagoUK / April 19, 2010
What about Kansas State and Ellis? Any traction there? I think K-State would have won the title this year if they could have beaten Butler.
I honestly think Terrence Jones is undecided (unlike Knight, Lamb, Selby, Irving, Barnes who knew early on but kept up the suspense for fun). He seems like a really good kid too.. I think Cal and Self will battle this one out pretty hard. Let’s not forget Washington which in reality may be the favorite at this point.
This week however, UK fans will be sweating out Marquis Teague’s announcement on Thursday. Other than being the #2 player in 2011 (Gilchrist is #1), Teague has been a strong Louisville lean until this month. Getting him would be incredibly satisfying for many reasons 🙂
/
Jayhawk_Jake / April 19, 2010
Oh I know they need to play out man, just looking ahead. Ellis sister will be gone when he gets there, but I have heard the Memphis talk, Im a Kansas local and buzz is strong for Ellis to KU.
/
tsmooth / April 19, 2010
KState is high on Ellis, too. Still plenty of time to see what happens with him, but I don’t see him leaving Lawrence, Kansas.
The longer it takes Teague to announce, the more likely it is that he chooses UK. Not to mention Lebryan Nash is an elite SF next year, and he lists UK as a finalist

razor ramone / April 19, 2010
If Jones taking a visit to KU means he is not staying near home, I really like UK’s chances regardless if Leslie commits. They aren’t the same type of player and can co-exist on the floor. As much hype as the Selby recruitment of him is getting, B Knight has been on him to come to UK for much longer. I really don’t think he can lose either way if he chooses UK or KU. I am not sold a kid would cut a school like KU from his list last year, and then suddenly re-consider once another player commits there. Just too late in the process to make a splash IMO.
/
MilesCat / April 19, 2010
How much depth does Kansas have, other than the Morris twins? UK has Kanter, nut he has some hurdles to jump before he can see the floor. I am sill holding my breathe for Leslie and Jones. If Jones wants to be relevant in college, he will be a Wildcat or Jayhawk, but the Huskies seem to be the slight favorite.
/
MilesCat / April 19, 2010
Here is a link for the Ellis visit.

/
Jayhawk_Jake / April 19, 2010
KU has depth, before listing them Ill say this cause im a KU fan, Self has a way of loading up and then players waiting for their turn, as odd as that sounds its true. For example when KU won it all in 08 with Aldrich barely seeing the court until his coming out party against UNC. The depth is this Elijah Johnson 5star like COle didnt see the court, Robinson 5star or four depending on where u looked, Withey same as Robinson and 7 foot, The Morris twins, Reed, Morningstar, CJ Henry, Relerford, Little, and add Selby and Wooldridge(I see a redshirt for him) Pretty deep squad not the most experienced but deep.
/
MemphisMo23 / April 19, 2010
I hope he signs with KU or Washington or Oregon or Oklahoma or UCLA.
Ellis even though I know my Tigers are in on him, is pretty much property of KU. He’s yours to lose
UK gets Leslie, I just dont see him at NCstate even though I would be nice to see a kid be true to his home area and just not fall in line because the media (espn) is making Cal and UK seem like its the “end all be all”. If you can play and are that good it doesn’t matter where you go, you can be a one and done high first round pick.
/
ChicagoUK / April 19, 2010
Really? I think the 8 McDonolds All-americans at UNC from last year would disagree with that..
/
suttonku / April 19, 2010
I dont think B Knight has been on Jones about going to UK as long as Selby has been on him about going where he goes. Selby and Jones have roomed together at several camps over the last couple years and Im positive they have been talking for quite some time about playing with each other at the next level…
/
suttonku / April 19, 2010
Several schools will be in attendance tonight to see Ellis, including Bill Self. This isnt really news considering most of the schools that are recruiting him are going to be there.
Ellis has been up to Lawrence 10-15 times in the last two years to see Bill Self. Im not too concerned about him going elsewhere…
/
tsmooth / April 19, 2010
Memphis will be in attendance today, as well. At least one assistant coach will be there to watch
/
UofA BJ / April 19, 2010
Razor Ramone with all due respect i’m hearing he is down to Wash and KU.
But you guys will land leslie unless he stays at NC state.
Any kentucky fans know if orton or bledsoe has hired agent?
/
GasCan / April 19, 2010
Neither has signed with an agent yet, but most believe that both will remain in the draft. Even though Bledsoe’s stock seems to be falling, it has been rumored that he has his heart set on going pro no matter what…hope it works out well for him.
/
MemphisMo23 / April 19, 2010
Would disagee with what?
Im going to assume that you referring to the comment about being a high first round pick wherever you go.
And my reply to that is they didnt play well and apparently weren’t good enough. Thats why they will be back at UNC next year, all these All Americans really aren’t as good as advertised especially when most recruiting services boost them up because of what school they are going to.
/
suttonku / April 19, 2010
Where did you hear Jones was down to KU and Washington?
/
blasphemy / April 19, 2010
UofA BJ, with absolutely no respect at all, he is not down to Washington and KU. Rivals, scout, and espn agree with me on top of several homer sites for UK which in this argument are too bias but I shall be noted. Please cite “sources” next time or give some sort of “reason” at the bare minimum. KU just started recruiting him, get real. I don’t doubt that KU has a shot with him, but seriously.
/
blasphemy / April 19, 2010
And my reply to your reply is sour grapes.
/
HallBall / April 20, 2010
So If thats the case why do you guys continually find yourselves on “Rivals” or “Scout” looking at these kids play then blog about about how many “Stars” they have.
/
BostonCat / April 20, 2010
your information has been so spot on to this point. lol
/
MemphisMo23 / April 20, 2010
Who are “you guys exactly” you dont know me so you couldnt be attempting to tell me about myself are you? I dont hold much faith with these rankings personally because I like to see it on the floor myself about how good a recruit really is.
Sour Grapes why would my grapes be sour? We have a great coach, a great recruiting class and our team is set and ready to go for next season. If we add any more recruits it will be luxury not a necessity. Not scrambling at the deadline to put a roster together we have been sitting pretty since the fall
/
MemphisMo23 / April 20, 2010
Got to be UK fans getting all sensitive and defensive when nothing bad was said about you or your program relax fellas, or is it just because I’m a Memphis fan that I have to be hating on UK. HA!! get real
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
My source is a close family friend and he says it’s Washington in the lead, unless he signs on his trip to KU, which he noted was a possibility. He also said terrence ross is likely to follow.
To me this means leslie to kentucky , since jones is no longer considering them.
Did you Kentucky fans expect leslie and jones to sign together?
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
Thats because McD’s always picks some questionable recruits like larry drew, tyler zeller, among others who even though are ranked 50 or above in most rankings they select them because they are going to north carolina.
Look at all the players who got in this year over will barton, its a joke.
A concencous top 10 gets snubbed for a questionable recruit. How do you think barton felt after getting snubbed by micky D’s.
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
These kentucky fans think they own college bball isnt that funny MemphisMo23. Excited to see memphis next year with all that talent coming in. It’s to bad williams isnt sticking around or they would be a top 10 team. I’ve seen Joe Jackson, jelan kendrick, tarick black, and chris crawford all play on the same AAU team last summer and met josh pastner. This will be big next year because these kids are all used to each other with the exception of the Barton bros. who have their own connection. I think this Memphis team will have a legit shot at the NC in the next 3 or so years.
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
for the next 3 years.
/
tsmooth / April 20, 2010
One, thanks for the nice things you said about Memphis. I wish Zona the best, and think Sean Miller has a very good foundation for the next 4 years. He should Zona being a perennial power again next year.
Two, Will Barton didn’t play in the Mickey D’s game because he is a 5th year senior, the same reason John Wall didn’t play in it last year. He didn’t get snubbed because he didn’t meet the eligibility requirements. Joe Jackson didn’t play in the Jordan Brand Classic because he went to the Reebok camp last year, and not the Nike camp during the summer.
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
Good info tsmooth, I was under the impression that McD’s left Barton off for someone else. Memphis took a big risk hiring pastner and they will definitely be rewarded with another final four very soon.
/
GasCan / April 20, 2010
“These kentucky fans think they own college bball isnt that funny MemphisMo23. Excited to see memphis next year with all that talent coming in.” Isnt that sweet. Hey UofA, why dont you just go ahead and ask him out already?
/
UofA BJ / April 20, 2010
Im sorry I dont have anything good to say about kentucky gascan, And im sorry to break your heart with the inside info on T jones even tho I know you think its BS.
/
HallBall / April 21, 2010
Does Anybody have some chapstick for UofA and MemphisMo there Is entirely to much ass kissing going on right now! As much as I want to beleive the fact that you dont use the scout sites just like your fellow bloggers on here I dont, or your school wouldnt coincidentally reruiting the same guys that are “5 or 4 star recruits”. I definitely do agree that some guys are overrated or just dont have abilities that will make them excel right away In college or In the NBA and Terrence Jones Is one of them. I watched him play twice, once on TV when ESPN had one of their Old Spice games and when he came to NY for the JBC and both times he didnt even look like he wanted to play. People have him projected as a four but to me and some others he plays like a oversized three, he doesnt really rebound well and he doesnt really have that explosion when he does jump such as CJ Leslie.
/
UAWildcat / April 21, 2010
Terrance Jones has all of the talent in the world to be a dominate player but his head gets in the way sometimes (kind of like Perry Jones). Last summer Terrance Jones was by far the best player in the Vegas AAU events.

blasphemy / April 21, 2010
No, I’m saying that either your sources are wrong with a capital W or you are lying. I say this because, there are far closer/better sources than what you have and if that was the case you would have a job as a recruiting exper on one of these fine sites. Also, Leslie to Kentucky is not done either, and people who actually follow recruiting don’t believe UK will get both. Look, the point of my previous post was me saying you don’t know what your talking about and/or to imply that you are lying, simple as that.
/
ChicagoUK / April 21, 2010
Just heard that Terrence Jones mom told a radio station that KU is not on his list.. list remains the same. Anyone else hear about this?
On another note, did he visit KU? Today is the last day coaches can contact in-person, correct?
Zags?
/
UAWildcat / April 21, 2010
I heard the same thing the other day through Twitterland.
/
GasCan / April 21, 2010
Hey Blasphemy, how can you question UofA BJ’s sources? He, with the divine blessings of the frosty tipped one himself, has started his own scouting and recruiting spin-off site from TBK. It is called TrueBlueandRedArizona.com. With that said, his info is clearly rock solid and will only change once real facts are known…this is a fluid situation after all! (Just a little inside joke for some of the UK fans out there, im sure you will see the similarities between the two of them)

Any news on Jones? Did he visit KU or was the report that he eliminated KU correct?
Kentucky has been completely absorbed in the Marquis Teague saga (#2 player in 2011) who will pick his school at 1:30PM EST.

Teague to UK will be a serious kick to Pitino’s junk. This would be a huge lose for him and all signs are pointing to the Cats. We will see.
