NEW YORK — While Doron Lamb says he has already selected a college, Josh Selby maintains he’s still weighing his options with about 48 hours to go until Saturday’s announcement at Madison Square Garden.
“I’m still deciding right now,” the 6-foot-2 Selby told SNY.tv Thursday at the Jordan Brand Classic practice at Sports Club/LA in Manhattan. “[Friday] when I have free time to think about my choices, I should know by [Friday] night, though.”
The No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2010 according to Rivals, Selby said his final list includes UConn, Kentucky, Arizona, Tennessee and Kansas.

Selby said his mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, already has a strong opinion on the matter.
“I think my mom knows where she wants me to go, so she knows. But I just want to sit down by myself and think about it,” he said.
Point guard Brandon Knight of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest announced Wednesday that he will attend Kentucky, but Selby said that decision would not necessarily impact his.
“I didn’t wait for him to commit,” Selby said. “I was going to commit here. I wasn’t waiting for Brandon to commit, Cory [Joseph] to commit because it don’t have [any] effect on which school I want to go to.”

Self better pray Selby chooses Kansas. With Lamb looking more like a Kentucky lean, that is his last hurrah. If you lose Collins, Aldrich, and Henry and don’t get some studs to take their place, their program will take a hit.

I think KU’s competition is TN (for Selby). It sounds like his mom is settled on KU and he is almost there.

No recruit is ever a lock, Knight never came out and said I’m leaning toward UK, but everyone knew he was headed to UK. I would love to have him at KU but if he doesn’t oh well your program doesn’t win 2,000 games because of 1 recruit, UK and UNC know that. Saying KU will take a hit is a joke I mean I guess if they don’t win the Big12 for the 7th year in a row then they are off the face of the map. I’m also curious of why Lamb is a UK lean, it seems he is headed to KU now I may be wrong, believe me after the X Henry soap opera who knows but if Jones and Ross are announcing at the same place on the same day, then sure looks like the duo is Bluegrass Bound. If Lamb and Selby who already said they would like to play together are announcing pretty much together I’d say they are Fieldhouse Bound. The nation is going to have to get used to UK landing a lot of recruits it’s just a reality, but I just don’t see why 2 five star points, and 1 five star SG and a 4 star SG all would want to play together, because it puts 2 on the bench, these kids talent and egos are too big for a bench. Best of luck to all the recruits can’t hate a kid for making his college choice or a college for pulling in recruits. KU will be fine if they don’t get either, but better with one or two. People chill out on hating on each other its ridiculous! For the record the Lamb pick is a mix of a gut feeling and being hopeful.

One way to look at it is,when these talented kids get to the NBA every player has to share the spot-light with many others that are just as talented as they are….Plus,Top players playing against each other every day in practice,will make them better….

Agree with most of your post Jake, especially your opening regarding no recruit ever being a lock – recruiting is a 100% fluid proposition. 17-18 year olds’ minds change on a whim based on who’s in their ear on a certain day, who’s going pro and who isn’t, or who has or hasn’t signed a LOI.

Well, two 5* PGs (Wall, Bledsoe) and two 5* PFs (Cousins and Orton, not to mention Patterson) found a way to make it work, and all, without doubt, will be drafted in Round 1, if not top 20. Orton averaged 13.2/min per game.
I don’t think it’s ego for many; it’s usually fear of being overshadowed and jeopardizing their draft chances by signing on with such a star-studded class. But, Cal has managed to alleviate that fear like no other has before him. To me, showing that he can put 5 in the NBA in a single year changes all the conventional thinking.

Arizona has one open scholarship for 2010, but many felt that if McCallum, Selby or Lamb committed that a current roster member would transfer (Brendan Lavendar) so Arizona could then go after a big as well. As it looks now Arizona may just land a big.

Lamb will go to UK. Selby will go to KU. Regardless, I don’t see Az really losing out on these players. I am very, very happy with Mayes, Perry, and Bejarno. But the catch is, we need to get Jack and/or Vargas. IF az somehow lands both and ends with a class of Bejarno, Mayes, Perry, Jack, and Vargas, then us Az fans have to be happy.
Coach Cal will never win a championship with these one and done guys. Look at the the teams he’s had in the past. Last year he had 5 potential 1st round picks and they didn’t even make the final four. I am way more happy with Sean Miller than I would be with Calipari. I don’t care who he recruits, if you don’t win it when it matters, your nothing. Az will have a championship before UK.
I have nothing against UK, i’m stating the obivious. Lamb will be a good player just like Selby, but you need a team of players rather than one.

Yeah,I saw Duke and Butler they had a great year, congrats to them and their fans.
I also saw 61 other NCAA Tournament teams that had the same as Duke-Butler had and they lost,just as Kentucky did.
So,UK did better than 56 of the 64 teams in the field…Only 4 teams went further than UK…
By looking at the numbers 63 teams had more experience than Kentucky did,UK played their worst game of the year and lost by seven points…
Now,how many teams had as much talent as UK?……Some may say KU,maybe Texas,maybe UNC any others?
My point is Kentucky had a great 1st year under Cal regardless of the outcome 35-3 and a elite 8 is much better than an NIT bid that we had just one season prior…
I do think we need some players to stay around for more than 1 year and that will come…Cal is laying the ground work,he never expected to lose 5 to the NBA,let’s wait and see what happens in the near future…
GL to your program,I’m not going to hold you to your “Bold”prediction that your team will win the championship before UK..If they do more power to you 🙂

You are going to have a COMPLETELY different team this coming year. So Cal didn’t lay any kind of foundation whatsoever. He is completely rebuilding again this year.

I think Selby would be a perfect fit at KU. He’s got that NY toughness that Russell Robinson had (who was a fan favorite at Allen Fieldhouse) and he’s got the competitive attitude that Serron Collins has, but with even better skills.
He’s going to be a big hit wherever he goes.

What UK accomplished is very relevant to me and to most of the fan base.. I believe it is also very relevant to the future of the program in general..
Like I said Cal was laying the ground work and didn’t expect to lose so many so soon.(Losing 5 possibly 6 depending on what happens with Dodson,diffidently will set back starting the foundation as planned…)
I would say he is reloading,Cal hasn’t been here long enough to rebuild the program just yet.How many coaches can take a team that was in the NIT and completely rebuild in one season?
It takes most coaches at least 3 years to start to see any major advances in turning a program around…
One of the biggest problems he has to over come is that the few returning players that we have are 1 senior-Harrelson, 2 juniors-Liggins/Miller,1 soph.-Hood and Dodson is a question mark currently….
The classes need to be evened out and that will take time unless you get a few from transfer or J.College…Once he gets the classes balanced out then we can have the much desired experience factor in play….
At least that’s how I see it playing out…Time will tell..

As far as turning the program around so quickly; don’t forget he practically took his entire recruiting class he had for Memphis with him to Kentucky. Wall, Cousins, and Bledsoe were all committed to play with Calipari at Memphis. That makes a big difference.
I also think your fan base got a little spoiled with how well your players gelled and performed. I just can’t see this new class that is coming in be up to par with a team led by John Wall.
If Calipari can get the same results from a completely different team, than I’ll tip my hat to him, but I don’t think it will happen. You may be another North Carolina this upcoming year (loaded with McDonald’s All-American’s) but still suck because they can’t play together.
That’s the scary part in having to reload like you guys are having to do.

I agree, I don’t like Hansen and neither do most Arizona fans!
But Arizona already has every position filled, we just don’t have the scholarships to give out.
To win a National title you need to have a good combination of one and done talent along with players who will stick around for 3 to 4 years.
Lute Olson was notorious for finding those players who were unpolished diamonds and turning them into lottery picks. Lute knew that the rating systems were flawed most of the time.
There are some players who are highly rated coming out of high school who are complete busts in college. And there are some players who aren’t anywhere near ESPN’s top 100 list, but come to college and dominate!
I’ll give you two examples of Arizona players; Jordan Hill was only a 3 star recruit coming in to Arizona but Lute saw his potential. Hill improved dramatically in each of his 3 years at Arizona and became a lottery pick just last year.
Than we have Jamelle Horne, who is currently going to be our only senior this year, who was a 5 star recruit and rated in the Top 10 of his class. He has been a complete BUST in college. Extremely athletic but just can’t adjust to the college game and excel.
My point is this; it doesn’t really matter what a recruit is rated, all that matters is if the coach is able to develop that players talent to help the team win.

Last time I checked Wall and Bledsoe hadn’t committed to Memphis yet. Now, you can argue Wall was going to eventually commit to Memphis, I would say it would be likely he would have gone, but not a forgone conclusion. As for Bledsoe, he explicitly said he would NOT have gone to Memphis and would have gone to Florida had Calipari not come to Kentucky, because he wanted to play in the SEC.
Also, we only had TWO McDonald’s All American last year. We weren’t “loaded” with them as you so put it. Just correcting the finer points.
