Baskin is Wide Open

I spoke to Tevin Baskin tonight and he says the recent report that he had cut his list to four schools was completely “false.”

“That’s false information,” said the 6-foot-7, 205-pound Baskin, a rising senior combo forward at Trinity (Conn.) Catholic. “I have not narrowed down anything at all. I don’t have a list as of now. I’m looking to narrow it down at the end of August or early September.”

A recent report out of Auburn said Baskin was down to Xavier, Auburn, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech, but Baskin says he’s looking at nearly a dozen schools.

“Right now I don’t have a list,” he said. “I have offers on the table from Xavier, Rutgers, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Rhode Island, UMass, Fairfield and Oklahoma State.”

Baskin said he had “no clue” where the report came from.

“I have no clue,” he said. “I spoke to one of the coaches at Auburn and he said they had no clue what’s going on. I haven’t narrowed it down it all. Everyone’s basically equal right now.”

Baskin said he’s considering all three New York-area schools, Rutgers, St. John’s and Seton Hall.

“I’ve been to Rutgers on two occasions and I’m planning on making a visit to the other two later on,” he said. “I went to Rutgers on an unofficial visit and I attended the Notre Dame football game. It’s a good atmosphere.”

Baskin added that he is friends with incoming Rutgers freshman Mike Rosario and also stays in touch with St. Anthony standout Dominic Cheek.

Baskin was not invited to either the LeBron James US Skills Academy or the Reebok All-American Camp this week.

“I’m surprised I wasn’t invited to either one,” he said.

He will be at the Nike Peach Jam and then hopes to cut down his list later this summer.

“I don’t have a timetable,” he said. “I’m hopign to decide before my season, but someone may jump into the picture later.

“I’m pretty much just looking for the best situation education-wise and basketball-wise,” he said.

As for his goals for the season, Baskin wants to help Trinity Catholic get back to the state finals and capture a title. A year ago, his team lost to Crosby in the Class LL final.

“I’m focusing on getting back to the championship again,” he said.
