INDIANAPOLIS — For three years in a row during his high school years in New Jersey, Wellington Smith came up short in state championship games.
And all three times he lost to future Duke Blue Devils.
The 6-foot-7 Smith, a senior forward at West Virginia who starred at Summit (N.J.) High School, lost to Brian Zoubek and Haddonfield twice in the Group 2 state final in 2004 and ’05.
**West Virginia will be without Brooklyn’s Darryl “Truck” Bryant for Saturday’s semifinal with Duke.
**Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim won the AP Coach of the Year Award. Read what Boeheim says about the award, Wesley Johnson’s future and Arinze Onuaku.
