In this interview with BoxofMess.com from the McDonald’s All-American Game, Josh Selby says he’s considering five schools, Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona, UConn and Tennessee.
“Right now, no one’s leading,” he said.
The 6-foot-3 Selby, out of Baltimore (Md.) Lake Clifton, will announce at the Jordan Brand Classic April 17.
“Yes, that’s correct. April 17. I will make a commitment at halftime,” he said.
Selby also said he wasn’t waiting for Brandon Knight to make his decision. Knight, out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest, is considering Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, UConn and Syracuse, but most observers expect him to pick Kentucky.
“That’s not true at all. [Knight’s choice] is not going to stop me. If we go to the same school, we’ll just have to fight for playing time,” Selby said, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Selby said he was “impressed” by how Kentucky freshman guards John Wall and Eric Bledsoe sacrificed for the better of the team, which lost to West Virginia in the Elite Eight in Syracuse.
Oak Hill (Va.) guard Doron Lamb will also announce April 17. Lamb is considering Kansas, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arizona and UConn.
His father, Calvin, said it not true that Doron had cut Arizona from his list.
“No,” Calvin wrote by text when asked if it was accurate.
Asked if they would commit to the same school, Selby told BoxofMess.com: “We talked about it, but I really don’t know. We said we were going to sit down and talk.”
**Elsewhere in the recruiting world, 2011 guard Austin Rivers has added North Carolina to his list of schools. Rivers initially committed to Florida and then opened it up to include Duke.

The latest I’ve even heard was that Lamb is now down to UK, KU, WVU and UCONN. Oh well, it’s likely Arizona won’t get one of the Big 3, but it’s alright. We got a nice commitment from Jesse Perry, and maybe we can land Jack.
Also AZ is in good position to maybe land Angel Nunez or Nick Johnson (lucky if we happen to get both).

palpalife / March 30, 2010
Where did you hear that about Lamb?

520Wildcat / March 30, 2010
At arizona.rivals.com as well as it was announced at the McD’s game last night

“Right now, no one’s leading,” – errrrrrr – wrong. Right now Brandon Knight is leading and everyone else is following. If you want to go to Kentucky then sign with Kentucky. What’s Coach Cal gonna do? Not honor your your scholarship once Brandon signs? (Shhhh – be quiet Matt Pilgrim)

ZonaWildcat / March 30, 2010
Not sure about that. From all the scouting reports and reporters around, Selby seems to be the best point guard there.
I’ve still seen conflicting reports on Lamb and Arizona. Arizona Daily star reporter Bruce Pascoe, he spoke to Lamb today and the first words out of his mouth were he was considering Arizona. Than in the scout.com interview he gave he didn’t list Arizona as a possible school, so not sure what to think.
Realistically the only one we had a shot at between Lamb/Selby/McCallum was Lamb in my opinion. McCallum is going to play for his dad, Selby is more than likely going to Kansas if not Kentucky so that really only left Lamb, who no one seems to have an idea what the hell he is thinking.
I’ve said this a thousand times but I would have really loved to have McCallum out of these 3. Selby is the best, but our program in a rebuilding mode makes it a lot harder to attract that kind of talent.
Lamb is more of a SG than a true point guard, although his father has said he can play the point, but he’s not quite as experienced at the point like Selby or McCallum and Arizona needs a talented TRUE point guard for next year.
McCallum would fit that mold perfectly for us. He is more than likely a 2 year player, although he has the talent to be a one and done, but I can see him staying for at least 2 years which is what our program needs right now.
Should be interesting but this is how I see it happening..
Knight to UK
Selby to KU
McCallum to play for daddy
Lamb to..who the hell knows, I don’t even think he has an idea WHAT he wants.

dmoneyball / March 30, 2010
Lamb to KU or UK, I actually hope he doesn’t commit to KU because we have soooo many guards. C.J, Reed, Morningstar, Selby (likely), Taylor, EJ, Royce, Releford, X if he stays (doubtful, plus he can play the 3). Somebody’s not gonna get pt, and you have to think somebody’s going to redshirt. If Lamb comes, that makes this situation even tougher. But I have faith in coach Self. I just hope he doesn’t let EJ get away. he’s going to be very good and it would be a real shame if he were to transfer.

Man, it sucks that UK is in the conversation to land all these great recruits and I am not getting excited. I guess I know nothing will ever match John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe. Even putting their on-court abilities aside, they were great for the community. Most people don’t realize what great guys they are, especially Cousins.
Best of luck to KU, UA and others in this recruiting season. I think every school will do well.
/
ZonaWildcat / March 30, 2010
Yeah its going to be very hard to replace John Wall, Cousins, and Bledsoe. But its not just that they had all this talent, which they did, it was the fact that they gelled and played so well together.
Just because you are loaded with talent doesn’t automatically mean you are going to be good; look at North Carolina. They had 7 McDonald’s All-Americans on their team and they sucked this year. They just couldn’t play well together.
Kentucky might get a Knight/Lamb combo though. I think Arizona is out of the running for all these guys. But I’m happy with what Miller has done so far in the short amount of time he’s been there. To even be considered by the best ballers in the land at this point for Arizona is incredible. Can’t wait to see what Miller does once he has a few more years to build relationships with these recruits.

Doron Lamb is still considering Arizona:

520Wildcat / March 31, 2010
“Of course, the fact that Arizona was not on the tip of Lamb’s tongue in the Rivals interview (with a reporter not from Arizona) is probably not a good sign for UA.”
Of course he’ll say Arizona is in the running if talking to an Arizona reporter. Lamb’s not coming here, move on!
/
MilesCat / March 31, 2010
Coach Cal needs to fill the shooter spot badly and if he is to be able to pull a Lamb / Knight combo that would definitely solve the problem. If that combo arrives in Lexington maybe we won’t see as much zone and Cal can use the dribble drive more next year.
I would like to second the notion of missing Wall, Cousins, and Bledsoe. They were great with the fans, every kid they met, and completely understood what it meant to be a Kentucky Wildcat. They embraced the state and were embraced back. Cousins maybe emotional on the court, but was a class act off of it. Cousins is one of my all time favorites. You never knew exactly what you would get, but he cared for his team and wanted to win more than anything.

Where are all the Kansass “Gangster U ” folks!
Come on…Do NOT HIDE.
Josh to Kanass is a joke.
I hope there is a special clause which allows Josh to select another school…in the event that some news comes out.
Put THAT CLAUSE IN….before signing anything.
With ARIZONA having TWO more open SCHOLARSHIPS….the west still likes the Package of Josh and Doron Lamb.
With Eric B,clearly not ready for the NBA,….UK is out of the running for both.
So Josh has Arizona and Gangster U— final two.
Easy choice. Real easy.
Right AZ….

JessieWildcat / March 31, 2010
The silence from Kansass Ganster U….is because they are attempting to seal the deal.
But, the NYC boys already know about the dealing happening at kansass.
As one poster said…follow the money.
No money ,no honey.

Selby and Lamb AREN’T coming here (Arizona), quit being a reh-tard!
/
MidnightLute / March 31, 2010
Sean Miller cheated at Xavier and from what I’ve heard is still paying players in Tucson. The difference is it was easier to recruit to Xavier. Kind of sad to cheat and still get scraps, but I guess that was happening when Lute’s wife was blowing recruits the last few years anyway.
Selby’s already told everyone who would listen that he doesn’t like the players or the fact that it’s not safe to be outside at night at Northern Mexico University. Drug cartels rolling around in armored SUVs +irrelevant program makes for a pretty hard sell, even when you pay.
/
beardown3232 / March 31, 2010
Why are you naming yourself after a horse that was named after Lute Olson. You obviously have been brainwashed out of your mind that Arizona is some school where drug cartels hang out all the time. And it is pretty sad that after 100 year of being a US State, you still don’t know how far south the state of Arizona extends.
/
MidnightLute / March 31, 2010
The handle refers to Lute Olson, the one guy that even Jerry Tarkanian thought was too dirty.
/
Michael / March 31, 2010
Poor MidnightLoser. Obviously hasn’t spent any time in Tucson or Arizona. Probably has never left the state he was born in, or the rural town for that matter. Not a single link or source of information to support his pathetic rant. Typical uneducated troll.
I havelived in San Diego, Phoenix and Los Angeles. Only spent four years in Tucson. Its a great place to live. Check the figures on the number of people who retire there if you don’t believe me, although I realize you don’t deal in numbers or statistics.
You are pathetic bringing up Lute’s wife, who died of cancer,in that regard. True class- your parents I bet are really proud of you.
/
RockChalkWoody / March 31, 2010
Jessie, you’re an effing tool. Good luck with that package deal to Arizona.
/
Michael / March 31, 2010
Woody most AZ fans realize there will be no package deal and most likely no Selby, Lamb or McCallum. A bummer but not the end of the world. We still feel pretty good about our coach and the future of the program, as do most objective, rational fans (i e not Midnight Loser).
I get a kick out of Jesse’s posts but if I was a KU fan I would not like him either.
/
RockChalkWoody / March 31, 2010
Michael, you guys have a good coach & I’m sure he’ll get it going in the right direction. Jessie is more of an annoyance than anything else. He will get to see Selby play next year when KU plays UA in Las Vegas.

JonHuskyMS / March 31, 2010
I actually fnd Jessie’s mindless rants to be quote humorous.

MAYBE Olson’s SECOND wife was blowing the players, but I think it’s pretty clear that the Silver Fox has been sticking it to Midnight’s wife for far too long now.

beardown3232 / April 1, 2010
Woody, it’s good to see you are still alive. Wasn’t quite sure considering how you haven’t posted a comment since before the UNI game.
ALI ALI ALI!!!

palpalife / April 1, 2010
Clear example of the need for censorship! Being unloved as a child is a tragic waste of American youth. Seek help, or post publicly what watch tower you are camping out in please. It is obvious you are an ASU fan and therefore lack common sense. It would be a wise decision on your part to actually attend class and get an education. How can you be so obtuse?
/
RockChalkWoody / April 1, 2010
Actually, I’ve been around and posted a few things. The UNI game was tough, but if anybody can relate to early exits it would be you UA fans.
NIT NIT NIT!!! Oh, I’m sorry…CBI CBI CBI!!! Oh, you didn’t make that one either?
/
beardown3232 / April 1, 2010
Sorry Woody but no losses Arizona has had compare to how embarrasing KU’s loss was. Kansas was supposed to be a Final Four Lock and many people including me, you, our president and probably even Jessie all had KU going the distance. So there is really no comparison. And the last time I checked, Arizona got farther than KU in their last tournament.
/
jhawk4 / April 1, 2010
2 words for you…
Santa Clara
you lost to a 15 seed. That is much more embarrassing then losing to an underseeded 9. besides, only one 1 seed made it to the final four. it was just one of those years in the tourney. I would rather win 33 games and be a 1 and be disappointed in march then struggle to get to 500 on the season.
and saying you made the sweet 16 in 09 makes you feel better? well so did KU.
/
RockChalkWoody / April 1, 2010
Uh, beardown, nobody has choked away first rounds as much as UA:
Arizona also has a history of first round upset losses in the NCAA tournament, including being one of only four teams in history to lose a game as a 2 seed (to Santa Clara, in 1993), one of only fourteen 3 seeds to lose a game (to East Tennessee State, in 1992), and one of twenty 4 seeds to lose a game (to Oklahoma, in 1999).
As for going further in 09, maybe you should hang a Sweet 16 banner. Who cares.
When Miller gets a Final Four and/or a National Championship then you can run your mouth. As it stands now he hasn’t done $hit.
/
UAWildcat / April 1, 2010
Not to split hairs here Woody but Sean Miller said before the season was over that he felt his team would be better off doing off-season work (ie weight-lifting and such) than playing in the CBI. But you are right that both of our teams seasons ended earlier than we would have hoped. I am looking forward to the UA/KU game in Vegas next season.
/
beardown3232 / April 1, 2010
Sean Miller not superman.
What did you expect him to do, come to Arizona and take them to the elite eight?
He produced one of the 5 best freshmen in the country according to Sporting News, and I would personally take Derrick Williams over Xavier Henry. And he took a program once thought to end up like Indiana to a 16-15 record.
Also Woody, I would take my fantasy baseball team over yours any day of the week.
Your best pitcher is a guy that won’t even be playing this season (Joe Nathan).
/
UAWildcat / April 2, 2010
Bradley and Bucknell… Every school has flamed out early in the tourney.
/
520Wildcat / April 2, 2010
84-67! Go kick rocks!
/
RockChalkWoody / April 2, 2010
You’re right…my fantasy baseball team sucks. That’s what I get for helping coach my 10-yr-old’s baseball team the night of the draft. I plugged in who I wanted into that ESPN automated draft deal & I can’t believe what I got. It’s horrible. I’ve already told my son that he can run it.
And no, I didn’t expect an Elite 8 from Sean Miller, but I also didn’t expect UA to get bounced in the first round of a weak PAC-10 Tourney and not make the NCAA Tourney. And of course you’d take Derrick Williams over X…you’re getting more than one yr out of your guy. Don’t be too hard on Henry. He did average 13.4 pts a game, 4.4 rebounds a game, and his 3 pt % was .418. Those #’s aren’t too shabby & he’s probably going to go Top-15 (NBA DraftExpress currently has him at 14).
Not sure why we are even having to a have a debate. You don’t like what I said. I said it in response to your obvious flame about Northern Iowa.
