Hofstra Says No Thanks to Gonzo

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bobby Gonzalez may be interested in the Hofstra job, but Hofstra is not interested in Gonzo.

“We never would consider that considering the situation he just came off of,” a source close to the Hofstra administration said.

The New York Post reported Saturday that Gonzalez, fired last week after four years at Seton Hall, had reached out through “back channels” to inquire about the Hofstra position. Tom Pecora left the job this week to take over at Fordham.

Sources said Gonzalez didn’t reach out to Hofstra AD Jack Hayes or university president Stuart Rabinowitz.

Hofstra assistant Van Macon is among the candidates for the job, as is CW Post coach Tim Cluess. The Post also listed former Virginia coach Dave Leitao and Quinnpiac coach Tom Moore as options. Hayes received his Master’s Degree from UConn, where Leitao and Moore were assistants.

Hofstra has not reached out to Moore, a source with knowledge said.

Hayes would not confirm who was on his list but said, “My goal is to have that list completed by the weekend so that it can be discussed on Monday.”

In related news, Hofstra plans to keep its locker room open to all credentialed reporters.
