Tiger to Watch Fed if he Makes Open Final

Tiger Woods will once again watch Roger Federer in the U.S. Open final if Fed gets there on Sunday, Federer disclosed in an interview with the USA Network.

“He said he’ll come if I’m in the finals again,” said Federer, the four-time Open champ who will meet unseeded qualifier Gilles Muller of Luxembourg in a quarterfinal Thursday afternoon. “I hope I can deliver again.”

When Federer beat Andy Roddick in the 2006 Open final, Tiger watched from Federer’s box.

“More and more often in the last year or so, I’ve been kind of compared to Tiger…so I asked him how it was for him,” Federer said then. “Many things were similar. He knew exactly how I felt out on the court…how it feels to be invincible at times.”

Federer has won 12 career majors, two shy of Pete Sampras’ all-time mark of 14, while Woods owns 14 majors, five short of Jack Nicklaus’ mark of 18.
