Branden Frazier to Hofstra

Branden Frazier, a 6-foot-3 guard considered one of the top ten players in New York City, verbally committed to Hofstra Monday night.

Frazier chose Hofstra over Southern Illinois, Kent State, La Salle and Fordham.

Frazier is averaging 14.7 points for Loughlin, which plays Wednesday in the CHSAA Class ‘AA’ Intersectional semifinals.

“At the end of the day, Branden decided that staying in New York would be best for his development as a player and as a person,” New Heights coach Kimani Young said by email. “[Hofstra coaches] Van Macon and Tom Pecora have done a great job with New York City guards like Branden Frazier that have come in under the radar like Charles Jenkins (Colonial Athletic Association Player of The Year) and Antoine Agudio (Hofstras all-time leading scorer). Its a great opportunity for Branden.”

According to Young, the decision was made Monday night after he met with Frazier and his family.

“I think the decision was wearing on him,” said Young. “This frees him up so he can finish up strong with Bishop Loughlin.”
