David McCormack Talks Maryland Offer, Duke Visit

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — David McCormack has progressed a lot in the last year and the Norfolk (Va) Academy center has slimmed down and now has a who’s who of college basketball involved for his services.

At midnight on Tuesday — when college coaches could first contact Class of 2018 targets — Maryland coach Mark Turegon reached out.

“Maryland, I actually got a call from them as soon as the clock struck midnight,” McCormack said at the NBPA Top 100 Camp “…It was a crazy experience. A lot of people told me to be ready. Coach Turgeon [extended an offer].”

The 6-foot-10, 280-pound McCormack is rated the No. 2 center in the nation by 247Sports and the No. 3 player in the state for the Class of 2018.

He also just came from a Duke visit and hopes to visit Kentucky soon.

“I just went on an unofficial visit to Duke which was a great experience,” he said. “I’ve also been talking with Arizona and Texas.

“As a recruit they [Duke] love my game. They love the way I play as a big and what they want out of me is now to have better pace on the court and just run faster. I think I’m close to an offer. If I can just improve my stamina and keep working hard I think hopefully an offer can come in July.”

On Kentucky McCormack said, “I hope we can get a visit to Kentucky it’s what we’re trying to plan.”

McCormack also said that Baylor, Xavier, Miami and a couple others called at midnight.
