Georgetown Offers Johnson; Harris Visits BC; Gibbs Misses Maryland Game

Tyrone Johnson, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound junior point guard from Plainfield (N.J.) High, has long been a target of the Georgetown Hoyas.

Coach John Thompson III’s staff was among the first teams involved with the powerful and skilled floor general.

But it wasn’t until last week that the Hoyas actually offered him a scholarship.

“They’ve been on him for a while. JT3 made it official this week,” Derrick Bobbitt, Johnson’s AAU coach, said Saturday.

The No. 46 prospect in the Class of 2011 according to Rivals, Johnson also holds offers from Rutgers, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech and interest from Kentucky, Villanova, West Virginia, UConn, Indiana, Virginia, Temple and UNLV.

“Hopefully, we’ll get to  West Virginia, Virginia Tech or Virginia before the season ends,” Bobbitt said.

HARRIS VISITS BC

Tyler Harris, the 6-8 younger brother of Tennessee-bound forward Tobias Harris, took an unofficial visit Saturday to Boston College for the Duke game.

“The trip was great. We just finished up talking to Coach [Al] Skinner. BC is very nice and a good program,” Torrel Harris wrote by text.

Torrel said his son will likely grow to 6-10 or 6-11 and that he has reclassified him to the Class of 2012. He will prep somewhere after leaving Half Hollow Hills West on Long Island.

GIBBS MISSES MARYLAND GAME

Seton Hall Prep junior point guard Sterling Gibbs wasn’t able to trip to Maryland for Sunday’s North Carolina game because of the snowstorm. He also had a mandatory practice Sunday.
