Syracuse’s Malachi Richardson to Test NBA Draft Waters

Syracuse freshman guard Malachi Richardson will test the NBA Draft waters without hiring an agent, the school announced Monday.

“With the new rules, it’s an opportunity for Malachi to get a better understanding of where he would be in the draft,” Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said in a statement.

The 6-foot-6 Trenton, N.J., native can return to campus for his sophomore season if he doesn’t hire an agent.

The NBA Draft Combine is set for May 11-15 in Chicago, and sources said 65-70 players will be invited. Those who aren’t invited are considered NBA Draft ready.

Richardson averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds for a team that reached the Final Four.

Syracuse adds combo guard Tyus Battle and wing Matthew Moyer in 2016-17.
