UConn sophomore wing Daniel Hamilton will hire an agent and enter the NBA Draft, meaning he can’t return to campus, according to the Hartford Courant.
The 6-foot-7 Hamilton is currently projected as the No. 53 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com.
“I’m not testing the waters or anything like that,” Hamilton told The Courant. “I’m all in.”
He added: “I had a great experience at UConn. It was a great ride. I’m glad we won the AAC Tournament and played in the NCAA Tournament. But after talking it over with my family, I just feel this is the best thing, to provide for my family, help my family out.”
One of Hamilton’s three brothers, Jordan, was a first-round NBA Draft pick in 2011 and currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Daniel Hamilton averaged 12.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists this season for UConn, which went 25-11 and lost to Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.
UConn guard Rodney Purvis and center Amida Brimah have also declared for the Draft, but haven’t hired agents, the Courant reported.
About 65-70 players are expected to be invited to the Pre-Draft Combine in Chicago May 11-15. Players have until May 25 to withdraw and return to campus.
