Bruno Fernando Commits to Maryland

Bruno Fernando, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound center whom one Division I coach compared to Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka, committed to Maryland on Sunday.

A native of Angola, Fernando had initially committed to SMU last April before opting to postgrad at Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy.

Fernando is Maryland’ first commit of 2017 and will help replace outgoing bigs Damonte Dodd and LG Gill.

[Fernando] is really going to fit well in the Big Ten. He’s a high-motor, tough power forward who is very skilled,” IMG Academy Coach John Mahoney told the Washingotn Post. “He’ll fit in real well with what Maryland does.”
