Rutgers is representing at the Olympics.
Former Rutgers standout Carli Lloyd of Delran, N.J. netted a golden goal to lead the U.S. women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the gold medal game in Beijing.
Since the Olympics started carrying women’s soccer in 1996, Team USA has now claimed three gold and one silver medal, while Brazil won its second silver.
“It was hard,” said Lloyd, pictured in the center of this photo. “It was definitely a battle. Now we’re all going to be on vacation for a little bit. But, I couldn’t have done it without any single one of these players on the team. It’s not about my goal, it’s about every single person and the coaching staff.”
Team USA also featured New Jersey natives Christie Rampone, Tobin Heath and Heather O’Reilly.
