Because he’s not signing with an agent, the 6-foot-4 Brooklyn native could return to campus for his junior season.

Beginning this year, the NCAA moved back the NBA Early Entry Eligibility Deadline until 10 days after the end of the NBA Combine. This year the Combine runs May 11-15, so the new deadline falls on May 25.

The new rules will allow college players to enter their names in the NBA Draft without risking future college eligibility. Once a player declares for the draft, he can participate in the NBA combine – if invited – and work out individually for NBA teams for feedback.

“We will have to be even more aware of the younger guys because they lose nothing by testing the waters now,” one NBA scout said.

“Any talented young guy will want and be able to get feedback from the NBA by coming for a workout. It’s definitely more work for the scouting departments.”

Whitehead, 21, is the 30th ranked sophomore prospect according to Draft Express.

He averaged 18.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this season for the Pirates.

On Thursday night, he scored 10 points on 4-24 from the field, including an NCAA Tournament record-tying 0-for-10 clip from three-point range, as Seton Hall lost to Gonzaga, 68-52.
