NEW YORK — During his senior season at St. Anthony in Jersey City, Mike Rosario played 32 basketball games and didn’t lose a single one.
During his final year at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, Gregory Echenique won 24 of the 25 games in which he played.
After going a combined 56-1 for coaches Bob and Dan Hurley, respectively, the young stars arrived as freshmen at Rutgers.

Echenique has nobody to blame but himself for believing Danny Hurley and his buddy, Fred Hill. He claimed he was interested in academics and selected a state school with a long history of losing and an unproven head coach.
Bob Hurley, who was unwilling to give his blessing to “Buzz” Williams, due to being an unproven head coach had no qualms about sending his McDAA, Rosario, to Freddie Hill, a similarly unproven head coach.
At least in the case of Echenique, there were rumors that he was getting pushed to Rutgers by the severely prematurely grey, Danny Hurley.
