Nunez to Visit UK; Jones Still Considering KU; Knight Axes Duke from List

Angel Nunez is the latest high-profile recruit planning to visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Oct. 16.

“I spoke to [Kentucky assistant] Orlando [Antigua] and I’m supposed to be going down there,” Nunez said by phone. “Chances are, yes.”

Eric Martinez, Nunez’s mentor, said nothing was definite and plans still had to be worked out.

The 6-foot-7 Nunez, a New York native, is a junior wing at the Winchendon (Mass.) School. He has offers from Louisville, Arizona, UConn, Rutgers, St. John’s, West Virginia, Arkansas, Indiana and Virginia. He is the No. 11 small forward in the Class of 2011.

Kentucky has interest, but has yet to offer. Nunez said Kentucky coach John Calipari or one of his assistants was planning to come to Winchendon next week.

“I don’t have a real favorite,” Nunez said.

Other high-profile recruits headed to Kentucky that weekend include C.J. Leslie, Tobias Harris, Kyrie Irving, Quincy Miller, Marquis Teague, Achraf Yacoubou and others.

JONES STILL CONSIDERING KANSAS

Terrence Jones is still considering Kansas, despite rumors to the contrary.

“He still wants them on the list,” his mother, Linda Mashia-Jones, said. “We haven’t set up an official visit with them but he still wants to consider them.

The 6-8, 220-pound Jones out of Portland (Ore.) Jefferson is also considering UCLA, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Washington, Arizona and Oregon.

KNIGHT AXES DUKE FROM LIST

Jerry Meyer of Rivals reports that Brandon Knight, the No. 1 recruit in the nation, has crossed Duke off his list. Perhaps Knight expects Kyrie Irving to commit there and is planning ahead.

Knight has visited Kentucky and UConn and told Meyer he may visit Kansas at a time other than Oct. 16.

Syracuse may also get an official, said Knight, who has been limited because of a stress fracture.

HUBERT VISITING MARYLAND, ANDERSON HITTING MIAMI

Desmond Hubert, a 6-11, 185-pound junior center from New Egpyt (N.J.), will take an unofficial to Maryland this weekend. Hubert is the No. 7 center in the Class of 2011…As reported earlier, Paterson Catholic sophomore guard Kyle Anderson will visit Miami this weekend.

Anderson, Seton Hall Prep junior guard Sterling Gibbs and St. Patrick wing Michael Gilchrist, the consensus No. 1 player in the Class of 2011, will attend a fall mini-camp on Oct. 9-11 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. They are preparing for the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship.

  • AZ,

    Good stuff.

  • AZ,

    You have the latest info.

Moreover, It appears that KU has also published that they are OUT.
These folks are close to KU basketball and Billie.
So, Kansass is bowing OUT since it can NOT WIN with TJ?
    Good decision.

If Billie and staff believe that they are OUT or have NO CHANCE ;then, the info goes to such Kansass publication….They like to SOFTEN the BLOW (with bad news….)
“Terrence Jones, a 6-8 senior forward from Portland’s Jefferson High, has sliced KU from his list of schools, …. reports. He has a final list of UCLA, Oklahoma, Arizona, Washington, Kentucky and Oregon.”

Talking about Softening the Blow……Kansass “G U” is still in a state of confusion.

  • Sorry, with links.

Talking about Softening the Blow……Kansass “Gangster U” is still in a state of confusion.

  • PS-

LEW ….MASS CONFUSION coming from Kansass “Gangster U”.

This was handled very poorly from the start.

Parent want to know what happened.
What controls are in place to prevent “YEARS of reoccurrences”….these FIGHTS were not isolated instances.

Boys being boys does not FLY anymore.

  • Hey Wildcat, I’m sure Zags really appreciates the garbage you pollute his blog with. Take a hike, and take your links with you.

  • Not the brightest bulb in the WEST, is he?

The entire point of theparagraph on Jones was that Jones denied to Zags that the Rivals.com report that you linked to was accurate.

“Terrence Jones is still considering Kansas, DESPITE RUMORS TO THE CONTRARY.”

  • please show me somewhere that it says KU is in a state of mass confusion. or a link to an article about a time this has ever happened before. you like links. i want to see one from a recruit that says,i wont go to KU because of what happened.

  • Wildcat, you know nothing…I repeat, nothing.

You hope to keep talking about Lew because your own program settled for the 5th choice on coaches (since everybody else turned you down) and you have to recruit vs KU. Not to mention the fact that your former benchwarmer, Pastner, can outrecruit your a$$. Sucks to be you.

    Everybody sees through your BS…

  • I guess Jones is still in play. Somebody at catspause thought it was significant enough to post that KU’s out–sorry to spoil the party.

  • Bottom line- Kanass Gangster U does not have an official visit set.
And the visit SCHEDULE, for TJ, was to be published today.

There are more discussions of another school which maybe cut…

acouple of folks reference ucla because of the “defense first” mentality.
    Is ucla out?

and there’s the conflict with Kentucky recruiting harris.
Kentucky views him as a point forward.
And Harris and TJ would be going for the same position.
Harris is a TOP priority for Kentucky.
    (not so with TJ.)

    I’m just saying….

    Note:
    If Kansas is OUT.
This would mean Corey Joseph and Terrence Jones….eliminated Kansass rather quickly…around the FighgClub started.
It surely took up Bill time….taking care of the mess with ALL the fights.

  • Yeah, two guys that Self wasn’t all over–must be FightClub, huh? Are you for real? You know nothing. KU will get the guys they want & your 5th choice of a coach will try & turn your program around. How much does it suck for you to see that little punk, Pastner, grab all those recruits?

  • AZ,

Looks like after you spoke to them , they had a meeting in the afternoon and had a change of mind – final decision was made.

Kansass “Gangster U” is OUT, with respect to Terrence Jones.

Other Kanass folks are reporting it as well….
    http://kansas.rivals.com/default.asp?type=4
As Woody suggest, Kansass did not want Terrence Jones.

Something had to give……Six schools (not including Oregon) and Five official visits.
Maybe there will be another cut soon (of two more schools- ucla and kentucky)

    Note:
    How is Mrs. Withey doing?
    Since you brought up ….Jeff.

    PS–
If SHU has not heard- AZag was voted the No.1 East Coast internet site for Arizona Wildcats.
    NO1 site, baby.

  • MORE on the Kansass “Gangster U”..

It is good that Kansas police are doing something about it.
Lew has not done anything significant.

Thank you Kansas Police. YOU did the right thing.
( or did the video convince the DA office)
At least you stood your ground…NOT like the folks in Kentucky.
A UK guy pulls out a gun and threaten people at a party.
And then puts comments on facebook about it.
Kentucky police do NOTHING….brush it under the rug.

    The kansas thing…
“Officers have opened a disorderly conduct investigation into last week’s …FIGHTCLUB,
. Initially, police said the incident — which involved as many as 100 people — was not being investigated as a crime.
Less than an hour after the fight, police said, a man threatened to shoot a woman in a parking lot “…

    So, there was a GUN(s) involved….

  • again, id love to see where you got the information about guns being involved. and also since you claim this has been happening for years, i would love to see evidence of any other fight that happened like this.

  • Seriously guys, just let Jesse argue with himself. He’s proven to be nothing but a spammer for his crappy Wildcats site. The funny part is he’s an ARIZONA and USC fan talking trash on Kansas players for fistfighting and Kentucky for recruiting violations. Glass houses my mentally challenged WESTERNER.
