Oklahoma, Kansas Lead for Doron Lamb; Poole to Announce for Kentucky; St. Anthony Duo Planning Visits

Doron Lamb may visit Oklahoma the weekend of Oct. 3 for his first official visit, according to his father, Calvin Lamb.

“We want to visit Oklahoma in early October,” Calvin said Wednesday morning by phone.

A senior from Queens, N.Y. who plays at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, the 6-foot-4 Lamb is the No. 3 shooting guard and No. 21 prospect in the Class of 2010.

“From what I’ve heard him say, I think his top three would be Kansas, Oklahoma and the next one I couldn’t tell you. It was Kentucky. But they haven’t been in here to see him yet,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said Wednesday by phone.

He added: “I think Doron wants to sign early.”

Kentucky head coach John Calipari did have an in-home with Doron’s parents in Queens.

Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, UConn and St. John’s have been to Oak Hill to meet with Doron. UConn will also have a home visit in Queens with the parents on Monday.

Smith said that there are only three weekends in October available for Lamb and teammate Roscoe Smith to take visits — Oct. 3, 17th and 23rd. An SAT test is set for Oct. 10 and the Warriors have a game Oct. 31. [Check out the Oak Hill schedule, which also includes tilts Feb. 12 and 13 in Trenton against St. Patrick and St. Peter’s Prep, respectively, in the PrimeTime Shootout.]

Calvin said Kansas, Kentucky and Arizona could also get visits, and that UConn or St. John’s might get a fifth.

“We’ll try and get them in as soon as possible,” he said. “I don’t want to space them out too far.”

As for the 6-7 Roscoe Smith, UCLA, Kansas, UConn, Florida and Duke have been in to see him.

POOLE TO ANNOUNCE FOR KENTUCKY

Stacey Poole, Jr., a 6-5 small forward out of Jacksonville (Fla. ) Providence School, is set to commit to Kentucky on Wednesday.

“He’s about to commit,” his father, Stacey Poole, Sr., told Jerry Tipton of the Kentucky Herald-Leader. “. . . Everything will be official by the of the day.”

Poole had narrowed his list to UK and South Carolina.

Poole told CatsPause.com that, “Kentucky is really strong right now, hard to beat.”

ST. ANTHONY’S PAIR TAKING VISITS

Over at St. Anthony in Jersey City, senior guard Elijah Carter and senior forward Derrick Williams are busy planning and taking visits.

La Salle head coach Dr. John Giannini will visit both players today (Wednesday) during an open gym.

Both players went to St. Bonaventure this past weekend and the 6-7 Williams visited Richmond the weekend before.

Williams has also visited St. Joe’s and Temple unofficially.

Fordham, George Mason and Penn State are also involved with Williams.

The 6-2 Carter will also have a home visit Sept. 30 with Robert Morris coach Mike Rice.

BU and Rider are also trying to get involved with Carter.

O’NEAL TO ROBERT MORRIS

Wilbur O’Neal, a 6-7, 240-pound forward from Harcum (Pa.) College, verbally committed to Robert Morris during his visit this past weekend. O’Neal is originally from Woodbridge, Va.

“I liked the atmosphere, the players. They bring a different type of game,” O’Neal said. “All of them play hard. They look at each other as a family. They said they’re going to do whatever it takes to help you.”

“It was his first visit [this past weekend], so he didn’t visit anywhere else,” Harcum coach Drew Kelly said.

“He’s a real rugged, wide body, post player, very strong, good rebounder. He’s a good all-around player. He can play offense, he can defend  and he can rebound.”

  • AZ,

VERY Good timing on the DORON LAMB recruitment.
We all knew that Doron and Cali were not a good fit.

The Stacey to Calicats has been discussed for days already.
Looks like others are seeing the light, finally….

What gave it away…. was it Monday.
When Poole call the SC coach and informed him of this choice.
And SC been got a committment from another SG. (on Monday)

But, we knew that Calicat failed with Doron Lamb.
It was evident from the Lamb’s visit to UK.

But , Kansass…..I do not see that happening.
Talk about heavy recruiting….Beal is on the Jay’s mind.

When it is all said and done…..Doron Lamb takes VISITs to OKL, Kansas,ARIZONA (and Johns).

Time to “schedule” the rest of the visits……

  • AZ,

It appears that YOUR site is one of the FIRST TO REPORT…..of Poole going to Calicat.

And from the start, it did not appear that Lamb and Cali were a good FIT.
With Eric B on the roster, Cali going after Josh S. and Knight….
It just looked like Lamb was not a priority…Not MUCH LOVE.

It appears that Calvin, Doron and Smith…..understand where the LOVE is coming from.

    I’m just saying….

  • Kentucky’s settling for plan C a little early…

  • At least Cali likes Stacey and Stacey likes kentucky.
That should be a good start.

he needs guys that will stay acouple of years.

  • AZ,

You may want to tell Calvin…..

He better come strapped to Kansas.
And bring some boyz with him.
Clicking your heels is not going to work.
