Class of 2023 guard Tru Washington commits to New Mexico

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Tru Washington, the 6-foot-3 guard from Arizona Compass Prep who is the uncle of Houston Rockets guard TyTy Washington, committed to New Mexico Tuesday night.

Washington is ranked the No. 10 shooting guard in the 247Sports.com Composite.

“Just the fact that they are on the rise and coach [Isaac] Chew and Coach [Richard] Pitino always kept it real,” he said.

As for his skillset, he added, “I can play good defense and score the ball at all 3 levels.”

Said Arizona Compass Prep assistant Pete Kaffey: “Tru is a 6’3 combo guard that is physical on defense and can score the ball at a high level. He has the potential to be an all-conference guy at New Mexico. He’s been really consistent all year on both sides of the ball.”

Washington joins power forward Jadyn Toppin in New Mexico’s 2023 class.
