Former North Carolina star Jason Capel, who is a current assistant at Pitt under his brother Jeff Capel, was seen yelling outside of the Pitt locker room following the team’s 65-64 win at North Carolina Wednesday night.
“Y’all gonna disrespect me? All I did for this program? Y’all gonna boo me? I held this sh*t together when Matt Doherty tore it apart,” Capel was overheard saying by a Pittsburgh Sports Now reporter. “F*ck that sh*t.”
Capel seemed to be directing his comments towards the aftermath of a social media post the Tar Heels put out before the game.

The post — depicting North Carolina’s Creighton Lebo wearing Capel’s old jersey No. 25 — reportedly got Capel “riled up” before the game.
“My brother loves this school,” Jeff Capel said postgame. “He dreamt of coming here as a player when we were little… He wore that jersey with a lot of pride.”
“But since he’s left here there’s been a lot of disrespect towards him,” Capel continued. “One thing happened today and I don’t think it’s coming from within their basketball program. I don’t know who controls their social media program but there was a Tweet… I thought it was them trolling him.”

Meantime, Pitt became just the third team to win three consecutive games at the Dean Dome. The Panthers have won five of the past six games against North Carolina and have swept the Tar Heels in a home and away series for the second time in the past four seasons.
After four straight losing seasons under Jeff Capel, Pitt moved to 16-7, 9-3 in ACC play, marking the most wins in conference play since the 2015-16 season.
