Ahead of Cincinnati visit, 2024 guard Travis Perry scores 45 points versus Kentucky signee Reed Sheppard

By JACOB POLACHECK

LEXINGTON – Class of 2024 guard Travis Perry is in the midst of a very busy weekend.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound point guard from Lyon County (KY), scored 45 points in a crucial win over North Laurel (KY) on Saturday evening and is now set to take an unofficial visit to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon for the Bearcats’ matchup versus No. 2 Houston.

“They need me. They’re saying they need a shooter like me,” Perry said of Cincinnati. “They need a guy that can come in, take them deep and win some games. That’s what Coach [Wes] Miller is pitching to me – that I’m a winner and we’re going to go in there and help him win.”

Perry went 17-for-26 shooting, including 10-for-16 from three-point range in a 90-83 win versus 2023 Kentucky signee Reed Sheppard.

“It felt like a street ball game, just chucking up shots and they’re going in,” Perry said. “The crowd’s into it, the team is into it. We wanted to win this one really bad.”

Sheppard finished the game with 32 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Outside of Cincinnati, Perry also said Kentucky has remained involved in his recruitment.

“Cal [John Calipari] is Cal. He’s a great recruiter, a great guy,” Perry said. “It’s been fun to be around the team. When I’m up there around the coaches, just get a feel for what it’s like to play and then get to meet some of the guys like Reed, DJ [Wagner] and all of them with Big Blue Madness. It’s pretty neat.”

Ranked by On3Sports Consensus as the No. 20 point guard and No. 95 overall prospect in the class of 2024, Perry recently moved into second place on the Kentucky boys’ all-time scoring list.

“It’s really neat, but it’s just a testament to the teammates I have, the coaching I’ve had and us playing ball,” Perry said. “Tonight we were just shooting it, it was going in, we were having fun and that’s what it’s all about. Just having fun and playing ball.”
