Duke on Brink of Falling From Top 25

When the new AP Top 25 rankings come out on Monday, defending champion Duke likely will tumble out of the poll.

The Blue Devils, No. 24 in the poll released Monday, lost at No. 15 Miami, 80-69, on Monday night thanks to Angel Rodriguez’s 13 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds.

Duke has been ranked for 167 straight weeks. Kansas, which also lost Monday at Iowa State, 85-72, holds the next-longest streak at 135 weeks. Arizona has been ranked for 71 consecutive weeks.

Miami fans chanted “Over-rated” at Duke (15-6, 4-4 ACC), which seemed somewhat counterintuitive considering Miami was ranked nine spots higher than the Blue Devils.

“I’m glad that the students were yelling overrated, I didn’t know we were rated,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said with a smile. “Thank you. We got six guys. I don’t know, were we rated? Were we No. 1 now? Or whatever.”

The Blue Devils have lost four of five and in their next six games face Louisville twice and North Carolina and Virginia once apiece.
