Class of 2023 4-star small forward Shawn Simmons commits to St. Joe’s

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Shawn Simmons, the 6-foot-7, 190-pound 4-star small forward from Hillcrest Prep (AZ), committed to St. Joe’s on Saturday.

Ranked the No. 22 small forward in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports.com, he also considered Maryland, Arizona State, UNLV and Xavier.

“Out of all the programs who recruited me, St. Joe’s was the one who stood out the most to me because it was a family environment so it felt like it was the best move for me,” he said.

The Philadelphia native added, “I’m bringing a versatile game on both ends with a high motor. I will make the highlight plays and be a defensive dog.”

Said Hillcrest Prep coach Nick Weaver: “Shawn is so versatile and is a very good spot-up shooter from the 3. Shawn is an outstanding defender who causes havoc on the defensive end of the floor. Shawn comes from an amazing family.”

St. Joe’s now has the No. 10-ranked recruiting class in 2023 per 247Sports.com, along with point guard Xzayvier Brown and power forward Anthony Finkley. All three are Philadelphia natives.
