Brandon Williams, the 6-foot-8 Class of 2023 power forward from the PSA Cardinals and Christ The King High School, took an official visit to St. John’s this week and has two more visits upcoming.
On Thursday, he and his mother visited Madison Square Garden and had dinner at an Italian restaurant with coach Mike Anderson and the staff. On Friday, he toured campus and had dinner at Del Frisco’s Steakhouse. On Saturday, he flew out to Pangos All-American Camp.
“They said they see him filling the role similar to Julian Champagnie but operate more as a point forward with the to handle and push the pace,” said Christ the King assistant coach CJ Steed.
Williams will visit George Mason (June 14-15) and Oklahoma State Father’s Day weekend (June 18-19). He is also working on an official visit to UCLA, which he visited unofficially in December.
Williams will also take an unofficial visit to Rhode Island June 11, along with Class of 2024 Nasir Rodriguez (Scanlan/ PSA) and Class of 2025 Markell Alston (Christ the King/New Heights Lightning.)
Williams has also recently heard from Michigan State and Virginia Tech.
“I’ve been keeping my handle tight so I’ve just got to keep working at at and staying in the gym,” Williams recently told ZAGSBLOG. “I’ve played like that my whole life, so I try to emulate someone like Jayson Tatum, someone versatile, so I work at that a lot.”
“Brandon is skilled and smart enough to play the 1,” Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello said. “He also has great footwork and toughness to play the 4 or 5. He just turned 16 which makes him a throwback. In today’s basketball world with all the reclassifications, he would be a freshmen or sophomore and completely dominate.”
St. John’s will also host Class of 2023 Hudson Catholic combo guard Elijah Gertrude (June 10-12) and Class of 2023 Cavalry Christian (FL) guard Carl Cherenfant (June 14-15).
